Ethereum Vs. Bitcoin: Is ETH the better investment?

You can't look at it like number of coins multiplied by current value. Market cap is an imaginary number anyway, but specially for cryptos. Consider this:

If I premine my own Pekicoin, and I have 10 billion coins on my laptop then I sell 1 coin for a dollar to my friend (so Pekicoin has 10 billion bucks market cap), that doesn't mean Pekicoin had 10 billion dollars flowing in. So there is simple no good way of accounting for actual money flowing into a crypto. (if someone knows a way, let me know) Maybe the buying of actual new coins would do such a thing, but that is hard to track.

So just because a shitload of Ripple have been premined that doesn't mean that it carries actual weight or importance among cryptos.

So in you hypothetical, 10 billion cap is not 10 billion coins traded at $1?

XRP is airborne now. The roles have reversed, XRP is now leading by example, not Bitcoin.

It is.

Ok, I misread what you were saying. Yeah, Ripple could very well be the flavor of the month and what's over hyped and has high volume. But there is something to be said about massive adoption, making a coin more "survivable" I believe. For example, people holding on to them after losing their shirts on a bad trade.

Apparently ETH has a scaling problem although right now it still can transfer twice as many transaction as bitcoin...

^Which is why Ripple could be a good contender for a market leader. If the tech is robust enough at scale, it essentially is SWIFT's replacement, which should lead to XRP being a multibagger at some point again, even if XRP's value intrinsically is fractions of a cent.

All aboard the hype train.

thinking of putting together a mining rig, should be good for ETH until November maybe w/break even in mid august, though right now, trading has been way more cost effective.

Good luck with the rig. RX400 series are sold out everywhere, and you are aware POS is coming 1 day yes?

Buddy and I looked into it, there is no supply of low power efficient GPUs now. Then there's the whole heating and location issue as well.

I can't find video cards, the rx460's were the only ones I could find @ $86 or so but they're hash rate is not so nice (basically half of the rx470's but at half the power consumption too). I don't know how many video cards you can run on a single motherboard though, so I'd probably have to make two rigs. I understand the POS is not until november? I threw a graph of the problem difficulty on excel and basically you're good until then it seems...Making around ~900$ and dropping to about ~400/month by then. If POS is before then, there's other coins one could mine I reckon?

As for location, was thinking bathroom and keep the heater off :).

I suspect the market thinks this price is high enough for both these currencies. I expect it to go sideways for the next week or so or until further developments occur.
