This editorial was clearly an election eve hatchet job by one of the loudest liberal voices in the old media.
That said, the Iraq policy has clearly been a disaster. I love the way the generals blame the Iraqi troops. Saddam didn't seem to have a problem getting them to keep order. But it takes our best and brightest two years to teach them to man a checkpoint? Clearly the problem is one of incentives. Why should they risk their lives for a government that is split along religious lines? We were the ones that thought it was a brilliant idea to divide the country along religious lines. When has Balkanization, or multiculturalism, ever produced a strong national identity?
