Donald Rumsfeld Must Go

This editorial was clearly an election eve hatchet job by one of the loudest liberal voices in the old media.

That said, the Iraq policy has clearly been a disaster. I love the way the generals blame the Iraqi troops. Saddam didn't seem to have a problem getting them to keep order. But it takes our best and brightest two years to teach them to man a checkpoint? Clearly the problem is one of incentives. Why should they risk their lives for a government that is split along religious lines? We were the ones that thought it was a brilliant idea to divide the country along religious lines. When has Balkanization, or multiculturalism, ever produced a strong national identity?

It doesn't matter who the message is from, as long as the message is true, which in this case, it clearly is...

Rumsfeld has lost credibility with the uniformed leadership, with the troops, with Congress and with the public at large. His strategy has failed, and his ability to lead is compromised. And although the blame for our failures in Iraq rests with the secretary, it will be the troops who bear its brunt.

"stay the course"
