Quote from AAAintheBeltway:
This editorial was clearly an election eve hatchet job by one of the loudest liberal voices in the old media.
That said, the Iraq policy has clearly been a disaster. I love the way the generals blame the Iraqi troops. Saddam didn't seem to have a problem getting them to keep order. But it takes our best and brightest two years to teach them to man a checkpoint? Clearly the problem is one of incentives. Why should they risk their lives for a government that is split along religious lines? We were the ones that thought it was a brilliant idea to divide the country along religious lines. When has Balkanization, or multiculturalism, ever produced a strong national identity?
I mostly agree with you...
But Iraq is a purely artificial construct.
Partition into 3 states is the answer...
If Bush still had his balls...
Because America would have a staunch ally in Kurdistan.
Also...
The Bush Administration would love to get rid of Rumsfeld...
But they know that the Dems would turn the Senate confirmation hearing...
Of ANY new candidate into a Show Trial for TV.
So the Dems are keeping Rumsfeld in place.
They still haven't been able to get Bolton confirmed as UN Ambassador...
He's there only by temporary Executive Order...
Probably the best man for the job since Jean Kirkpatrick.
