Love when the sheeple get swayed by a headline and never read the article or bill...
Pretty ignorant to applaud the Governor doing nothing more than a show piece of legislation on a ocmpany that is Florida's largest employer and tax revenue generator and brings in more tourists and related income to the State. His ranting about dissolving the District FAILED but the walruses are clapping their hands.
It is also funny when people applaud a bill they clearly have not read:
The
legislation, which now awaits the governor’s signature, would require DeSantis to appoint a five-member board to
oversee the government services the district provides in the company’s sprawling properties in Florida.
The bill leaves the district and its financial abilities and debt obligations intact, addressing a chief concern of surrounding governments. It also prevents people who have worked with or contracted with a theme park in the last three years from serving on the district’s new governing board.
Wow DeSantis added supervisors to oversee the water, electricity and fire/police services provided by the District...which are services provided by the government ....
What is the real reason DeCantis couldnt dissolve the District? Disney’s Reedy Creek district
has about $1 billion in outstanding municipal bonds. If dissolved, the debt would transfer over to the “local general purpose government,” according to Florida’s Uniform Special District Accountability Act.
The right is so easily duped with the words "accountability" that DeSantis pushed when the bill simply puts oversight on the government services the District offers which have been done quite well for 50 years. You think DeSantis is going to ruin the operations of the District that directly affect Disney? Keep dreaming.... and when DeSantis leaves office he will not care anymore.
here is the best part: Republican critics of the district argue it gives Disney a commercial advantage unavailable to others.
BULLSHIT... you think Universal Studios and Sea World are complaining that they do not have to run an entire city of operations and pay for it? This action is simply to blow the dog whistle for the next election and lie about what it achieves.
I cannot wait for a state like California to get pissed at a company that speaks out against its legislation and then tries to punish them outright taking away tax benefits or other perks. Watch the walruses here suddenly get upset haha
