It is not about patriotism it is about selected outrage. the Betsy Ross flag is flown regularly at U.S. events and is a symbol of the first 13 colonies of the U.S. and the Revolutionary War (hence the appearance often on July 4th.). For many years not any real public outcry that the flag refers to time that there were also slaves.
