No, what I said was that you cannot pit individual right or left candidates against candidates on the other side because there are too many options. Until it's down to two candidates, all you do is split the vote. Here, allow me to simplify it for you - I can tell you're confused.

When you poll 5 candidates on the right (or vice versa) with one candidate on the left (or vice versa) you're splitting the base of voters on one side but not on the other. Therefore, polling early doesn't amount to shit.

For example: Polling Rand Paul against Hillary won't give you an accurate measure, because the republican voting base is more segmented. You can't poll Bernie against Chris Christie either, for similar reasons. Once the voting base is solidified under one candidate, you can do that. But until then, ...nope.

I have been a Libertarian for a long time. You seem to be missing the very important point that voting for a particular candidate is more an exercise in picking the lesser evil than being able to find one to match your views 100%.

Independents vote every year for either Democrat or Republican. They are still Independent after they vote - they don't get a congratulations card in the mail saying "Welcome to the Democrat (Republican) party!"

I would have thought this was basic stuff. What do they teach in school nowadays?

It makes me wonder if so many of the resident leftists really do embrace Clinton (just read Covertibility and FutureCurrents defend her at every turn) OR is it just complete and utter hatred for the right? Hell, I couldn't stand Dubya for probably 7 out of his 8 years in office...I was actually ok with Obama at the very beginning (if he had followed thru on some of his campaign promises)...I couldn't stand watching Fox during the 8 years Dubya was in office, etc, etc...

The leftists always believe that when we attack their positions or their blind loyalty to the "party" that we are somehow equally rabid about the right, and it's absolutely not the case...in some ways I'm guilty of what I ascribed above (i.e. utter hatred of the left), but I will not (nor have I ever) simply adopted the prerogative of adopting the Republican party and blindly defending them no matter what the issue.

I vote for the candidate most likely to win who embraces as many of the policies I believe in as I can find. You can vote however you like. That's the whole beauty about each person having their own vote. As for how you see me, who really gives a fuck what you think? You're an alcoholic who smokes pot and sits on the couch all day - supposedly trading - and claims to be a Libertarian but believes in endless entitlements like foodstamps, housing and whatnot. Every morning you wake up and post on this forum - most of the time in response to your own posts, having your own dialogue and running both sides of the debate.

Could not agree more. Standing for principles is far more important than picking some stupid "team".
