Chaffetz calls for $2,500 legislator housing stipend

Everything is all relative,
For their job/responsibilities...they all should deserve a healthy paycheck.

Only like 1% of politicians are rich, or well-to-do. -- Most of them are relatively poor or normal o_O

I think I read somewhere not too long ago that big shots like Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden barely have a million or two in the bank. or their net worth.

If they were as empathetic about their constituents troubles then maybe it was worth considering but given how this shit-gobbler voted on the 'mean' healthcare bill, he can prostitute himself for the extra home in DC.

let them sell themselves for money... like the clintons.
good idea.

i say take the money out of politics shrink their staff funding a bit through attrition... and pay these guys enough to keep a house in the d.c. area and a home in their district.

Yeah, give'em more money and more free perks while we're at it. That always attracts the best and the brightest, doesn't it? Been working great so far. How bout this? When these cocksuckers actually get something done besides working on their fucking re-election campaign maybe we talk about some more money. Besides, if it's so god damn horrible why the fuck do they keep running for office?

which is why I said take the money out of politics.
the rich and the crooks are the ones who keep running.

I am suggesting we look for systemic changes that might work.
We both are pissed at govt... we both want solutions.

having congressman sleep in their offices shows they are underpaid.

D.C. is an expensive area. Their salaries are not enough to support a family in 2 separate high expense areas. That is going to lead to compromises we would not want our congress people to have to make.

I despise how the establishment votes and lies and sells out their constituents.. Anything we can get them to do to cut ties with lobbyists is worth doing.

This is an old story.
But when I worked there as a 22 year old they did not pay first year staffers much. So I went to free buffets and listened to blow hards give speeches on the hill for free food.

I frequently saw the same congressman chowing at the free buffet with me. I remember Sen. Nunn being there at the buffet a few times. He was obviously there for the food not the speaker. He was an excellent democrat senator. He should not have had to seek out free food.

Your guy ran a fake university, scammed single parents with hungry kids for his money. At least Clinton's made money by yapping to rich people, so it's better you stop bringing Clintons into all this.

first of all trump is not my guy. I was more of a rand paul, ted cruz kind of voter.
the clintons made money by doing more than yapping... they sold us out for 10s of millions. from selling our stealth technology to china to uranium to russia.

by the way if trump cheated people... he should be punished appropriately.

That's one way of looking at it. I respectfully submit this idea. How's about they go live among the commoners of D.C.? Everyone living there can't be a K-Street lobbyist. There must be a auto mechanic that lives in D.C., maybe some assistant manager of some retail store. Where do they live? I'm not suggesting that our leaders go live in some housing project, but living among the people that they supposedly represent would allow them to better know and relate to us common folk. Might even warm them up to term limits if they had to live among the unwashed masses for their term in office. Or we can give them enough money to continue rubbing elbows with the elite, listening only to them 99% of the time while doing the token Town Hall meeting, you know, to get the "feel" of the general population. No, more money in their pockets won't fix the problem. Getting them in touch with real people who live real life, with real problems, just might open their eyes to what's really going on in this country.
