Let's get back to how far the Washington Post has fallen -- it is now primarily into smut and smear journalism. The paper in the old days had standards and some level of integrity in its reporting.
The first sexual liaison story the Washington Post reported in detail was about presidential candidate John Edwards. The Washington Post did not break the story or hire investigators/reporters to dig up dirt in the Edwards story, it merely provided summaries of the details that came out via other outlets, witnesses and court/party filings.
This is very different than the Washington Post today, which sent investigators & reporters to Alabama to deliberately dig up decades old smut on a Senate candidate. This is not different than how the National Enquirer operates. The journalistic standards and integrity at the Washington Post have tumbled greatly as the staff at the paper focuses on lurid reporting regarding sexual escapades & behavior of candidates and for the most part ignores serious in-depth political reporting.
