If we look at history... we can see in a variety of indicators that the standard of living in the US had gone down the last 40 years. We have gone for one income middle class families to 2 incomes needed.

We do crumble. Immigrants play a vital role in birth rate, educated workers, new business start ups, and tax payments.

The short of it is without immigration we cannot afford to care for the elderly. Now if you think we should not care for the elderly then that is a philosophical disagreement and no Mathematical equation is going to help.

There is no way to tell why the standard of living has gone down precisely but it is certainly not due to immigrants. I would assert the weakening of unions has played a significant role in the declining of the standard of living for the middle class.

That's easy. Unimaginative CEO's find it harder to innovate and sell more of a product than to raise wages on par with inflation to keep the share price rising.

I can tell you right now immigrants have driven housing demand and prices much higher.
Its complicated but what you see is that as old neighborhoods become filled with immigrants the native populations move out and drive up the prices of homes in other neighborhoods.

Overall... I have read studies that said as immigrant population in a city increase by one percent the price of homes increase by one percent. So that is just one area where immigrants have hurt the standard of living of the natives. you get less house for your money.

Now just about every non rich lefty in California says we need more affordable housing.
Once again we see lefties complaining about issues caused at least in part by the policies they support.
