paying roughly $1,600 for the M6807 or well over $3,000 for the same chip, possibly faster version, from the other two vendors:

I run a 1024meg desktop and it is slow when using wealthlab. I need double that or more if possible..
Tell me about data caches and how they affect performance?
If I buy a notebook are there any that can take big ram?

Dont know about the notebooks.

But the more memory you have, the faster an equity curve
simulator can calculate the final results when crunching
large portfolios of symbols.

Wealthlab is incredibly slow compared to my home grown
backtesting system.

You probably need 10 times the memory I do with wealth-lab
to do a backtest, and you will still come out much slower than me.

IMHO, unless you're doing NASA stuff, you won't notice the difference enough to justify the added cost. That statement is qualified with my experience of being in this industry for over 15 years. This improvement won't be missed or felt (this time) by you for your trading need.
