SouthAmerica: I used to have an email account at my university years before they started the WWW. That was before they invented the Mosaic software browser that eventually became Netscape.

I used to post information on newsgroups and I forgot all the other stuff that we used to do on the internet – but it was all written information, no pictures and no other visual stuff. It was based on folders with info posted on these folders.

I better stop talking about it before the young people think that I am a contemporary of Thomas Edison.

But I am talking about the late 1980’s and early 1990’s even though it seems that it was a lifetime ago.

I remember using the first Mosaic and later the Netscape browser when that browser came out in the early 1990’s and I thought it was great that the internet already had a total of 5,000 websites for people to visit. At that time I never imagined that just a few years into the future we would have over 20 billion websites on the internet.

Since Al Gore became Bill Clinton’s vice president I remember seeing him on the news talking about the internet and the information superhighway. Al Gore understood immediately the importance of technology and the impact that the internet would have in transforming the world that we knew.

Al Gore played a major role in putting the spotlight on the internet including the wiring of the school system in the US and also most libraries around the country.

Al Gore understand better than anybody else the value of state-of-the-art technologies; he has been on the board of major technology companies such as Google, Apple, Current TV, and so on….

Al Gore understand the importance of broadband, and leading edge innovation and technology. He understands how the world of tomorrow works because of his involvement with all these leading edge technology companies.

There is no other politician who is better qualified in the United States than Al Gore that has a grasp on how the entire world is changing because of technology. And Al Gore would be the best bet to be in charge of a technological revolution in the US in the coming years and reinvent the US economy based on the technologies of tomorrow.

I believe in technology and I can’t even imagine all the breakthroughs that are ahead of us in the coming years.

In my opinion Al Gore is the best bet that we have in the United States to guide the US during this reinvention of the US economy regarding the technologies that will change the world in the coming decades.

Under Al Gore’s leadership the US can develop the technologies of the world of tomorrow – and the US can become once again a leader in the development of leading edge technologies.

During the 8 years of an Al Gore administration I would expect many technological breakthroughs and a massive transformation of the US infrastructure for the better to bring it to par to be able to compete in the new global economy. And I also expect that in the process millions and millions of new jobs (high quality jobs) are created inside of the US economy.

That is the Al Gore that is appealing to me; the Statesman, the visionary, the ethical, the high character, and the best politician that is available today to become the next president of the United States.

Im thinking MSFT NETSCAPE ORACLE an CISCO and AOL had something to do with understadning the internet...but ....once again.....SA is sayign AL Gore had an 'Understanding" of the Internet but cannot name a specific accomplishment by him in the Senate or VP

What makes him so ethical? im not saying he is a bad person...i don't think he is ..but he made all his money helping young kids get addicted to cigarettes you know that right? sure, he may have renounced tobacco....but he didn;t exactly give back all the $$ his family has made getting generations of kids addicted and ill....do you realize it took him longer to figure out tobacco was an addictive and deadly drug his family was selling then it did for him to figure out global warming??...and there is a lot more proof of cigarettes and cancer then there is over global warming causes don;t you think?

I have a feeling that I am talking to a group of 5 year olds.

First, Al Gore never claimed that he invented the internet – that was misinformation that people spread in the net to make fun of him.

People with the 10-year old mentality just like Ratboy88 – Look the arguments that this guy has against Al Gore – He is too fat. Then he says that I am in love with Al Gore because I am trying to make the case why he is the best candidate to be the next US president. He is too old (Al Gore just turned 60-years old). He has a big house. His family used to grow tobacco many years ago.

How can anyone have an intelligent discussion with people that say: but he is ugly, but he is short, but he is overweight, and I don’t like him because…(let me find something on the web to show why I don’t like this guy.)

I said that he was instrumental in putting the spotlight on the information superhighway and played an important role regarding public and private policy to wire the educational system and the library system and prepare it for the age of the internet.

You grasped the part regarding “He understood the net early”, but you did not quite grasped the part were I said: Al Gore is involved with some of the leading edge technology companies of today – Google, Apple, Current TV and others – and he understand better than any other politician the role that technology and the internet is going to play in the job creation process of the jobs of tomorrow.

I guess you guys require further explanation until the point sinks in.

Al Gore has been involved for many years in one way or another with the smartest people in the technology field – these guys from Google, Apple, and many other Silicon Valley tech guys – all these very smart people have been helping to shape Al Gore’s knowledge regarding leading edge technologies that it is changing the world on a daily basis.

Al Gore has the mindset similar to these guys and he would be more responsive to their suggestions regarding innovation and he would give more support to the development of the technologies of the future.

I guess I need to contrast that with other options for you guys to understand what I am saying.

Compare that with John McCain since he might be elected president in November 2008:

If Al Gore is not the Democratic Party nominee for the general election then I am sure that John McCain will be the next president of the United States.

John McCain understands wars, and he has the mindset of the cold war.

Lets turn the clock back and fight wars around the world, give tax breaks and charge it all on the credit cards of future American generations.

Under a John McCain administration Americans will be able to accumulate another $ 5.7 trillion dollars in debt on top of the $ 10 trillion that already has been pissed away.

I just want to remind the Chinese, since they are one of the major lenders for the US government that there was another Empire that collapsed using that same strategy – In the 1700’s France was the major world power until they decided to finance the US independence war (does 1776 rings a bell?) – by 1787 – 1789 France was in the middle of a major financial crisis that ended up on the history books as The French Revolution.

One of the major causes for that French government financial crisis it was the money that they pissed away helping finance the American Revolution of 1776.

I wonder if China wants to follow the same path that France followed during that time.

The Chinese has accumulated so far $ 1.6 trillion dollars in US government debt, and before you know that amount it will be $ 3 trillion dollars in a fast declining currency.

The United States can count with one thing for sure – people don’t learn from prior history and they repeat the same mistakes of the past, and thanks God for all the greed suckers that it will continue financing the US government for many years to come and it will accumulated a ton of fast declining value US dollars.

Yes, the French Empire collapsed after they financed military spending and a revolutionary war in the United States.

The American Government must be happy that they found another sucker – China - to finance the US defense spending and its military adventures around the world.

For the United States it is the second time they project military power financed by another country – and the first time around the story did not ended well for the French.

But today China has not achieved the status of an Empire as yet – and they already have put in motion the strategy to create a new Chinese Revolution (Just keep in mind the financial crisis that brought about the French Revolution).

and why do you think the Chinese so happily fund the US debt? they'd be toast without US consumption. they are HEAVILY export dependent, and although they have the largest banks in the World now, almost all of them are insolvent, propped by the gov, which HAS to keep growth in double digits just to employ the massive number of people entering the job market each month.

China is a massive house of cards. When it goes thump, it will go hard.

yep, the US would get hammered also, but unlike China, the US has a massively broad economy. Actually, its economy is still ranked as the most competitive on earth. Collapse the currency, which is what a debt default would do, and it would be even more so after a period of pain. There would have to be major reform, because without reserve currency status the US couldn't run up such massive debt, but it would be a good thing in the long run.

China is not going to have anything resembling an Empire SA (other than a massively polluted domestic landscape and bucket loads of dollars). I give em a decade max before the whole thing blows up. its unsustainable. If you don't believe my econ analysis, i can post about a dozen articles for you on this. Pretty much common sense actually.

SouthAmerica: Al Gore did not invent the internet as you guys like to say.

The internet had been around for many years, but only a small number of University, and US government people had access to it.

I used to play on the net during that time, and thought it was cool.

But most Americans had not even heard of the internet and they had no idea what was an email.

During that time I doubt that the total number of people with access to the internet were more than 500,000 people from around the world. That was before they invented the internet browser.

It was the stone-age in terms of today’s internet.

Without the US government programs created to help wire the high school system of the country plus most public libraries in the US with internet access – these were the seeds that were planted (and Al Gore played a major role in the creation of these systems) and helped develop from the ground up the internet system that we have today.

Al Gore was instrumental in creating the policies that helped build the foundations that in following years developed into the internet that we have today.

I know that you are a right-winger and the fact that Al Gore played a major role in creating of the foundations for the modern internet it must bother you more than anything else.

Your purpose is to ridicule Al Gore at any cost with simplistic statements instead of having the intellectual maturity to understand what really happened during the early days of the development of what became the internet that we have today.

For all practical purposes Al Gore was at the ground floor of the birth of the modern internet – the internet explosion happened only after the invention of the web browser which happened in the early 1990’s – as I remember the first web browser that I used called Mosaic then the same group of people came up with a better web browser called Netscape.

There were also other new service providers at that time such as AOL, and others.

I know you will continue beating this thing to death, but that shows more of your ignorance than anything else.

You told me that you are a right-winger conservative and in your world everything is right or wrong, black or white, or you are with me or you are against me, and so on…

In a nutshell: a very narrow-minded mindset view of the world and reality.
