SouthAmerica: Reply to drmarkan
By October 2007 Al Gore will be so hot after winning an Oscar - after going in the road on a book tour - and finally in October when they announce that he is the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
I have no doubt that he will change his mind by that time and he will become an immediate front runner with chances of winning the presidential election.
In my opinion, the only reason Al Gore will not run for president in 2008 - it is if he decided that he does not want anymore to be president of the United States.
Otherwise if he enters the race - he has everything going on his favor and he will be elected US president in 2008.

âAl Gore announces series of high profile concertsâ
Friday, February 16, 2007
Al Gore continues his massive campaign for awareness and, on the eve of what is an almost-guaranteed Best Documentary win at the Oscars later this month for his hit An Inconvenient Truth, the former Vice President has unveiled plans for a huge series of concerts, set to focus on the same theme as the film - the threats caused to our planet by global warming. Al Gore announced "Live Earth" on Thursday and the internet and music communities were immediately abuzz with the incredible 24-hour event that the former Presidential candidate has planned.
The event formed by Al Gore will kick off on July 7th and, according to the Associated Press, serve as the main event for the Save Our Selves The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis, a campaign that organizers and Gore hope will, along with An Inconvenient Truth, kickstart a generational movement into what Gore calls a "planetary emergency."
Al Gore held a news conference on Thursday, flanked by Cameron Diaz and Pharrell Williams (of The Neptunes and N.E.R.D.), and told the press "We have to get the message of urgency and hope out." He added "We can solve it - we will solve it. But we will only solve it when enough people in the world get the message."
The group of organizers then went on to list some of the performers and locations for the July 7th event, which will be a series of concerts that will take place all around the world including Shanghai, China; Johannesburg, South Africa; Sydney, Australia; London and more cities to be announced in Japan, Brazil, and the United States. One concert will even take place in Antarctica, making sure that part of the event happens on all seven continents.
Al Gore said that part of the concert event is still being worked out, "As of this morning, I got a call from friends in the scientific community that we have found a way to originate on July 7, in the middle of what is winter in Antarctica, the first live musical performance originating from Antarctica, so that all of the continents will be represented during this amazing 24 hours of concerts."
The bands scheduled already, which number more than 100 performers, including Melissa Etheridge, The Foo Fighters, The Black Eyed Peas, Akon, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Duran Duran, Korn, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dog, Bon Jovi, snow Patrol, Mana, Kelly Clarkson, Bloc Party and Enrique Iglesias. The Peas are working on a theme song for Live Earth, according to Variety.
It is expected that the Live Earth concerts could reach as many as 2 billion people either through broadcast or through actual attendance. Proceeds will help kickstart a foundation to combat climate change led by The Alliance for Climate Protection, a committee chaired by Al Gore. Kevin Wall, the producer of Live 8, is helping to organize the event with Al Gore.
You'll be able to watch the concerts in the United States on NBC and its sister networks, Bravo and Telemundo, while the BBC will broadcast the shows in Britain. Variety reports that Live Earth will also be broadcast on MSN.com at the web site Liveearth.msn.com, which is already up and running. There is also expected to be coverage on Current TV, Sirius, and XM. Live Earth will take over many different mediums and markets.
Al Gore's documentary about global warming is up for two Academy Awards, Best Documentary, and Best Song for Melissa Etheridge's "I Need to Wake Up." The Oscars will be telecast on February 25th. Producer Lawrence Bender has been speaking to groups about the message of the film, saying earlier this week, as quoted by Variety, "The movie is a beginning point. It is not the end." Another producer, Laurie David, is going on a bus tour through the Southern U.S. this spring with Sheryl Crow to support the message of the film
Many have said that both the film and now this event seem like the perfect warm up act for another shot at The White House for Al Gore, who lost to George W. Bush in the highly contested election of 2000, but Al claims that he won't run for President again. It's gone as far as some former aides of Gore's meeting Boston and actually discussing a campaign to try and draft Al into running. He told reported yesterday, "I haven't changed my answer about politics. I have no intention of running for president again."
