Well I'm European in Asia, I guess I could be out of the loop but I've been looking into the stats a lot from various sources. He was saying there were no sources for this information but the Johns Hopkins site has been up for a long time now and is really well built.
On top of everything, this virus is very much a temporary thing, not like a site that can attract visitors year over year (like ET).
I might be wrong but there's all sorts of opportunists trying to take advantage of this misery.

It supposedly gets 30 million(!!!) visitors A DAY! The previous Quora link said you could make 10K per day with 1 million daily visitors, so he could make 300K per day. Compared to that the 8 million offer was pretty low.

But anyway, there is a Buy me a coffee button on the site. If you lowball it, he still probably gets 1K per day just from donations, and maybe he is happy with that as a teenager. Let's say he would make 100K by the end of this virus run, that is still pretty good for a teenager.
