17 year old rejects $8 million to place ads on his website

It supposedly gets 30 million(!!!) visitors A DAY! The previous Quora link said you could make 10K per day with 1 million daily visitors, so he could make 300K per day. Compared to that the 8 million offer was pretty low.

But anyway, there is a Buy me a coffee button on the site. If you lowball it, he still probably gets 1K per day just from donations, and maybe he is happy with that as a teenager. Let's say he would make 100K by the end of this virus run, that is still pretty good for a teenager.

Absolutely, assuming the 30 mil number is right. Have to remember that the numbers will only go down day after day since the virus is becoming part of normality.

Adds team bit wrong with timing.

What a surprise, this kind of kid doesn't fit in at school (according to him, he's a bad student.)

SCHOOL IS A WASTE OF TIME.
I am reminded of another kid who said "School is a waste of time", Linus Pauling.

Pauling quit attending his Oregon high school in his senior year in protest over "having to learn useless things." As a result, he failed to meet the requirements for graduation. Years later, after he had been awarded two Nobel prizes, the only person to win two unshared prizes, his high school graciously invited him to attend their commencement ceremony where he was awarded an honorary high school diploma.

Really, I never heard of this story. Any sources?

It is great to hear all those stories of drop outs who make it in life.

I wonder if there are any statistics out there on those who don't make it, without looking for it i can guess what those numbers will be like ...

I read it years ago in one of the many biographical sketches. Most likely C&E News. Just google it. Here is a picture of him proudly showing it off. Don't let it give you any wrong ideas about the value of an education. Pauling spent the rest of his lifetime teaching. In fact he met his wife, who deserved to share his second nobel, while teaching as an undergraduate student at what was then Oregon Agricultural (was it College?) -- anyway that became Oregon State.

Here he is proudly showing off his diploma. You should know by now I don't post stuff that's not verifiable or that I don't label in some way questionable if it is not verifiable . If I have any doubt I'll use weasel words like, "if true" etc. I don't take something that Jackass Trump or Jackass Hannity or Jackass Alex Jones or Jackass Limbaugh has said and paste it all over the internet like it is actually true (or, for that matter, something I read on those Screwball sites like ZH or Fox News or Breitbart.

I'm being shit on for not googling it but I couldn't find the specific story.
No problem. Trying is good enough. I'll find it for you. Give me just a moment.

here it is http://scarc.library.oregonstate.edu/coll/pauling/awards/1962h.2.html

It's Oregon State that has his papers now I believe, And I think that's where they have moved, more or less, the Institute he stated for the study of human health and nutrition (and other things?) Pauling was one of those guys interested in everything. He had an amazing memory! I was lucky enough to hear him speak on two separate occasions.

The part about his childish protest over having to learn useless things is going to be harder to find. But it to is out there. Maybe it came from his parents. But we can no longer ask them.
