You Can't Trade Without A College Degree!!

Like reaver said, they are cattle.
So I guess college is the difference between DUMB CATTLE and SMART CATTLE. End of the day they all get butchered. LOL.

Personally, I think it depends on the trading position or role you want to have. We do the due diligence for different types of FX traders for a group of hedge funds. They will fund a good trader that has verifiable statements even if he doesn't have a college degree. There is a lot of demand now for FX guys who can generate alpha. Although a college degree looks good on a resume, trading ability and experience are by far more important.
IMHO, a college degree doesn't really teach you how to trade. I generally recommend it; but not if a trader is already successful and looking for institutional capital. It's like telling Lebron James to go back to college because it's going to help his game. I know this is not a perfect example, but I just had to use it.

I don't have a degree but I spent 40+ years doing software engineering for a number of companies like SDC, CSC, Lockheed, ITT, etc. For the past 6 years I've been trading equities and I've made more money doing it then I ever did in computers. Actually, I think programming was good preparation for trading in many respects (both require attention to detail and discipline). Anyway, I recall some guy going on and on about the merits of a college degree and I finally got tired of it and I asked him if he really thought that Bobby Fisher would have been a better chess player if he had had the advantage of a college degree? Bobby Fisher was world champion at the time. Needless to say, that was the end of that discussion

Rival, nice posting .. I have been in computers for 20yrs and I am ready for the jump to trading. Like yourself I'll be able to write my own tools ... we'll see hw it pans out ...
Thanks for the compliment. I use a very simple approach to trading and it has served me well but I have to admit that I've been intrigued with the idea of writing some tools. Most of my software experience was in real-time telemetry processing and the concept of scanning for "set-ups" in real-time really appeals to me. I wish you the best in your future trading career.
