Uhmmm we already have that in place..Child abuse hotline.
The same could be done for mental health issues. Guidelines could be established for persons to be evaluated in the home by social workers or psych rather than just calling the cops who can't do much before the fact.
The mother could have called and said my son is a diagnosed schizo and is not taking his meds, I can't control him. Immediate intervention rather than a lengthly court procedure.

Had she called the authorities and proclaimed him a danger, they could have intervened. She did not call. Anyone can call and point out a danger. The authorities still need to make an evaluation.

Just because every single shooter in recent memory was mentally ill or taking anti-depressants could not possibly mean that mental illness is the problem. Obviously its the guns owned by the 300 million sane people that have never violated the law in their whole lives that is causing this problem.
