Would you pay $27,000 for software?

ktmexc20, i totally understand.. and i agree who they are aiming at. but be realistic, to programm all the things that it does (i only listed a few), would take alot of time -ALOT. that time spent on developtment, plus your opportunity cost during that time, is surely worth $27k, if not more.
As the saying goes...'To each their own', but I totally, totally disagree.

Inventure licensed "Ranger" for a similar sum... monthly. It was a license to print money; at least in the 1998-2002 markets.

I used Expo for awhile back in 2001 - 2002. It was excellent; no complaints; just wasn't a good fit for our firm's needs.

If you have the means to put the program's strengths to good use, the price of the program very reasonable.

Reproducing Expo from scratch would take multiple programmers, mathematicians, stataticians, project managers, and a couple of CFA's several years and a couple million dollars.

Advice like "...just learn how to program..." is about as good as "...just learn how to fight..." when you are facing 2,000 Airborne Rangers by yourself. Not very helpful.

totaly agree. I certainly believe it's very powerful.. esp if you know how it can be used.. and everything in one place. but it's very expensive for an individual.

nitro, can u give me a link to Orca.. thanks..

the program is expo. in my view it's no use to anyone just wanting to trade like on TT. it's no use at all if you don't want to truly ANALYSE DATA. this is very powerful. if you have a economics & econometrics background, technical, programm, and construct portfolio it's best thing I've found. in a way it's like combining Eviews, CATs, R, with wealth-lab, etc..
.

I've been using expo for 10 years. Yeah, it's worth the vig, but then I paid much less.

Unfortunately, high fixed costs are part of the barriers to entry that keep the majority of individual traders on the wrong side the 90:10 rule. It's the way of the world.

Lucky lucky you.. I been playing around with the free student version.. totally love it.. it's the perfect thing I was looking for.. but wish I could afford it.. the econ add-on is a dream..

riskarb you're making me really jelous..

actually how is its licencing processed?

man I could just imagine what I could do with it live..

student version still useful for the macros and language.. but all the fun bits are not included.. not a single add-on.. no econ, backtesting, simulationg etc..
and all the VaR analytics.. it's like having a whole mid-office team working for u..
