World’s first anti-ageing drug could see humans live to 120

I remember seeing a segment some time ago on calorie restrictive diets for longevity on 60 Minutes, I believe. The people being interviewed looked like cadavers and took pleasure in eating foods with minimal calories and, if memory serves, protein.
WTF does how you "look" (ie appearance perceived by your society)have ONE thing to do with longevity and health, or the science behind it?

By YOUR definition, actor celebrities, or pretty people should live longer than ugly people?

your an idiot.

Is that a reading comprehension issue, or early onset cognitive decline? Please advise.

People with atrophied muscle mass resulting from a lack of sufficient nutrition (and exercise) will have ambulatory challenges when they get old. That will hasten the downward spiral.

My what?

Bodybuilders, or the obese (which is often same thing :) do not live longer despite there abundance of "nutrition" and protein.or there 16" biceps.

your appearance means ZERO in terms of longevity. most of those "cadavers" you denigrate will live a LOT longer & healthier than you.

I don't give a shit about "bodybuilders," as you refer to them. There's so much steroid use and abuse there that, in the aggregate, they are a poor point of comparison. A straw man for your lazy argument.

Think. Suppose I am currently eating to maintain a healthy weight, which I do. If I now restrict my caloric intake, I will lose weight. And as I pursue this restricted diet, I will continue to lose weight, depending on the level of restriction. I will begin to look like an anorexic and actually become one. I might choose to stay in bed to minimize my metabolism in order to slow down the weight loss. So where does it end?

If the idea appeals to you so much, then by all means go for it.

your hung up on "i will look like.."

where does it end...with the science not your perverted notions of heath & appearance which are traditionally antithetical to health.

Really? Appearance was the only thing I mentioned? You're quite the troll, aren't you?

May I assume you have adopted this dietary regimen? So as not to come across as a flaming hypocrite?

amateur bodybuilders eat too much. their focus is on muscle not health & longevity. that's a distant 2nd and 3rd with them.

they'll eat ANYTHING to put another 1/4 inch on there biceps.

how does this follow from your previous assertion?
, as long as nutritional needs are met.
Caloric restricted animals are younger for there age and as a result more energetic

So where does it end?

with the science now 80yrs in the making, that's just begginning

Don't have to wait for a pill, a disciplined and self-sacrificing eater can achieve this now.

https://www.fightaging.org/archives/2002/11/calorie-restriction-explained.php

Calorie restriction or caloric restriction, usually abbreviated to CR, is a strategy proven to extend healthy, average, and maximum life span in many short lived species, including mice and rats, and at least healthy and average life span in primates. In research papers it is more usually called dietary restriction, abbreviated to DR, and rodent studies conducted over the past 20 years have reliably demonstrated up to a 40% increase in maximum life span through life-long DR.

I recall some research that showed that restricting calorie intake to 500 every fourth day had the same effect.

I've witnessed two people get old and die (one of them my mother) and both of them had atrophied to the point that they couldn't even get up and go to the toilet. You could literally see both bones of their forearms because their skin had wrapped around it due to lack of muscle tissue.

I make goddam sure I get to the gym and do resistance exercise so that I will have enough muscle on my frame to get me through old age. I don't want to be a skeleton lying in a nursing home bed shitting in my diaper because I don't have enough muscle to get up and move around.
