Windows 10

Of course... But they should not wonder if they are not quite taken too seriously. It's like "I don't like yahoo because I read it's bad". I understand your point though, you would make a pact with the devil if he alone provided you with options and choices. For some in life all it matters is that they feel they have the ability to make choices and feel they are in control. That alone is so powerful to them that they would kill for it. How dare MS came along and took the choice of upgrading away from them. Goodness, some really live a splendid life that all they seemingly have to care about is that their OS dares to download and install the latest security patches. For each his own...

With all due respect, that has nothing to do with my assertion that:

Another windows10 question: is it possible to use a PC or laptop with W10 without a disc IN the PC/LAPTOP?

I want to work from an external SSD. So if I remove the SSD and they steal my laptop I keep my data. For every use I plug in my SSD and start the laptop, that's what I want.

If it works for a laptop it probably will also work for a PC. I have two identical PC's in two different countries. I would like to take my SSD with me on the plane when I travel and just plug it in the local PC and work. As I take the SSD with me all information is always available and should not be synchronised. I also have a better feeling if they would steal my PC while I am in another country as they have no data and I just have to replace the stolen PC.
I don't want to put anything in the cloud.

Tried already a few things, but nothing works.

Yes it works as long as your Uefi boot manager recognizes the external ssd drive. As long as it is recognized in the bios it works.

It has to do with a contradictory quest for privacy. If you have a mobile phone and installed apps on it or if you have Google mail or the like you already gave your privacy away. In Windows 10 you can choose how much of your privacy you want to preserve. Both are a choice. But saying yes to the first but no to the other on the grounds of privacy concerns makes very little to no sense. But I am glad you made your choice. As long as you are happy with it all is good. Just please stick to the facts in that Windows 10 does very much give you the choice how much you want to reveal to Microsoft and how much you don't.

Ok

Not sure if this should be posted here but don't see a good alternative.

Nearly everyday someone offers me Windows 10 for free. Should I be leaving Windows 7 behind and download 10?

FWIW I have never used Win 10. Unlike some, I prefer to do research before investing instead of jumping in the puddle and then asking how deep it is. Experts can advise you at the techie-type sales places. Get three or four opinions and ask why and why not. I avoided troubles on Win 6 and Win 8 by doing exactly this.

The latest advice I have received is to stay on 7 for the time being. (I recently read that corporations may have forced microsoft to blink so a new SP patch might be released.) If you move to 10, then buy a brand new computer and start fresh (because of the most dangerous variant of the stuxnet virus.) Enough said about that.

The latest threats are extremely dangerous IMO. Here is an recent example:

Notice the infection method is a fake "RTF" document ... and who invented RTF? I have personally chosen to avoid Microsoft products on Macs where ever possible.

Considering the number of high profile attacks on governments and corporations it continues to astound me that we get all these people driving through the cyber warzone minefield with a golfcart and telling others "See I made it fine so it's OK".

Mac has had problems also so install malwarebytes and learn the location of the force quit command. Mac has a built in pdf feature which was a pleasant surprise.

Now it's Microsoft's fault because they invented rtf? Accusing some of wearing a tin foil hat is an utter compliment.

For anyone jumping into this thread right here: STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS 10. MICROSOFT IS OUT THERE TO HUNT YOU DOWN!

WOW. This from "Trust me when I say that I am a pretty advanced user and programmer and tried everything under the sun to save the laptop." I guess I touched a nerve.

Choosing computers is not about religion, its about facts. What are you so afraid of?

Nice strawman there from out of nowhere. You obviously have an agenda.

Good luck with your choice!
