Maybe not evil but they sure want to collect a lot of free information about their customers ... You already paid a licensing fee: why do you want to provide them with with more free marketing information ? If they want it from our firm they will have to PAY for it but we wont give them free acccess to our usage patterns. If they make their systems more onerous with respect to intrusions in to our systems we will just deal them out, i.e turn them OFF permanently by moving to other vendors.

Something to think about Microsoft .....

1. We were not having a "meaningful discussion". You were accusing me of either not referencing a legitimate concern, not having that concern come from a creditable source, or both. (The source of the issue was never the question, except in your view... what, you work for Microsoft?)
2. I didn't ask YOU for input. You volunteered it... unfortunately it came with some attitude.
3. The issue wasn't SP3, but specifically patch 811493.
4. Next time I ask a question, do me a favor and DON'T ANSWER.... even if you know the very best answer, PLEASE, DON'T ANSWER.

Guys,

Won't I get this automatically one morning with my other "new updates are ready to install" that come perhaps once a week?

I don't even look to see what the updates are anymore. Both of my computers run fine with W2K as updated from time to time. Is that being naive?

There has been previous issues with some of
MS SP's and patches. For example, SP1 for WIN2K was buggy and
was fixed in SP2. Every SP will generate at least some
complaints, in most cases not due to the SP. In any event, MS
has taken pains to make sure that the SP's are fully tested prior
to release. And they are removable if there is an issue with a
particular machine. Still, most net admins don't like touching a
perfectly network and are reluctant to violate the "if it ain't broke,
don't fix it" mantra and understandably so.

For single machines, go for it.

just updated sp4 and it crashed my computer..blue screen on startup. can't even get into safe mode. i guess its time to reinstall

i can get access to the harddrive (hooked it up to another computer), but dont' know how to rollback the install. anybody?

Hey, mine did the exact same thing! Had to go to the library to
post this. Damn, didn't you listen to the gnomester? He warned

This gentleman's question was never fully answered. I would like to know as well: would SP4 be among our "automatic updates are ready to install" we receive periodically?

Also, how do you "archive" your files?
