Will they please stop publishing great books!

Quote from omegapoint:

That was my dream too. I fufilled it when I got a boat. I don't know where you live. A body of water is a prerequisite ...obviously. I used to go out miles from shore where only the skyscrapers could be seen and my friend, who is a
civic minded cosmopolitan sort used to look at the city and I'd be looking out in the other direction at the void. When its hot and the water is calm take your boat out for as many miles as you want and that dream gets fufilled ...esp. nice is shutting the motor off and just jumping off the back 15 miles offshore.
I understand exactly what you are saying. One of the most endearing parts of "Forrest Gump" is when he keeps his promise to "Bubba" to become a shrimp boat captain. One scene, Lt. Dane jumps off the boat and starts a backstroke in the middle of the Gulf. Or in Shawshank, when Andy Dufrane finally escapes from prison out the end of the sewer drain and falls into the river, elevating his arms into the falling rain. And then at the end, when Red is seen walking on the beach towards Andy working on his boat... It was medicinal just watching it.

During the summer, I go to the beach (lake) in the northern Chicago suburbs (wilmette & winnetka) and take long walks with my pooch. The sound of the waves, the stillness, has a deep effect on me. On particularly hot days, I love going outside and walking in torrential rain in my shorts and sandals when no one else dreams of being outside (the first time I took my dog into that he was like, wtf? But now he loves it too). Not quite what we are talking about, but there is something about water and connecting with nature, with stillness.

I know non of this compares to actually being in a boat in the middle of the ocean sailing, but it is as close as I am able to get right now.

Quote from RCG's Girl:

Have ever read "The 48 Laws of Power" or "The Art of Seduction" both by Robert Greene?
No. When I like a girl, being myself is seductive enough, or it isn't.

I do not desire or seek power.
