Will they please stop publishing great books!

Quote from LivingInVol:

Anyone looked into ereaders? I want to get one but I can't tell if I'd actually make use of it (I mean besides being a paper weight...). Just something about have a real book in your hands.

I am using Kindle app on iphone. It is always with me and I have 3 or 4 books ready whenever I have time. If something happens to the iphone I can always download again, or delete from the iphone and download again. No problem. Not great for books with a lot of pictures. On a trip I start my favorate songlist in itunes and start reading. I don't have any more room for books in my house....

Waiting for the Dell Streak which should be out next month. 5" screen, smaller than a ipad, larger than an iphone running Android. The Streak also has a microSD slot supporting up to 32GB so you can put a very large library on one microSD....

Good Reading,

I spent way too much money last night. I got:

The Eerie Silence: Renewing Our Search for Alien Intelligence (Hardcover)
~ Paul Davies
http://www.amazon.com/Eerie-Silence...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1270839142&sr=8-1

The Little Book of String Theory (Science Essentials) (Hardcover)
~ Steven S. Gubser (Author)
http://www.amazon.com/Little-String...1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1270839196&sr=1-1-spell

Decoding Reality: The Universe as Quantum Information (Hardcover)
~ Vlatko Vedral

A Tear at the Edge of Creation: A Radical New Vision for Life in an Imperfect Universe (Hardcover)
~ Marcelo Gleiser (Author)
http://www.amazon.com/Tear-Edge-Cre...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1270839259&sr=1-1

(I also got a book on ASP.NET 3.5, but that is boring as hell - just reference.)

Thankfully, Borders had a 30% of coupon which I used more than once (shhhhh).

I will try to give recommendations when I am done with them.

Please do, I'm interested in getting into those types of books now.

The Constants of Nature: The Numbers That Encode the Deepest Secrets of the Universe [Paperback]
John Barrow (Author)

http://www.amazon.com/Constants-Nat...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278948983&sr=8-1

This book actually gave me an idea for trading. There is a really nice diagram of a cube that shows each constant that defines a theory along a dimension of the cube. It shows how as each constant goes to zero, you get a lower energy theory as a basis. This has trading systems construction ramifications.

Aside from that, the book has things in it that I have never seen anywhere else, so I learned quite a bit.

I strongly recommend the Gubser book. You get the feeling that he wants to unleash real physics on you, but is constantly holding back, at the same time rewriting passages to make it simpler and more understandable.

The other books are a ton of fun, but are much lighter reading.

I cannot emphasize what a gift this book is. It is an absolutely must read for every teacher in existence. There is a parent version that is probably must reading for every parent as well, but I have not read it.

Do yourself a favor and read it.

Fred Jones Tools for Teaching: Discipline, Instruction, Motivation [Paperback]
(Author), Jo Lynn (Author), Fred Jones (Author), Brian T. Jones (Illustrator)

http://www.amazon.com/Fred-Jones-To...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1280172827&sr=8-1

Newton's Gift: How Sir Isaac Newton Unlocked the System of the World [Paperback]
David Berlinski (Author)

http://www.amazon.com/Newtons-Gift-...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1282407501&sr=8-1

Got this book for $1 at Borders. They have these markdowns from time to time. I was pleasantly surprised. Had to browse the crates for a while to find it, but the price was right.

I have seen people on ET ask, what single thing is the most important going from red to black in trading, or to the same effect. This book argues that the single most important attribute (not just in trading) in any endeavor is, being able to hold a problem in your head for years, all the while believing in yourself that you will crack it eventually. Newton was probably the supreme artist of this.

And I find that after reading a hardcover, I usually have to read a softcover before returning to another hardcover again. I wonder why that is.
