Why would anyone care if a soldier was gay?

Quote from OPTIONAL777:

So following your "logic"

If the majority of men in a platoon hated blacks, or hated Muslims, or hated Jews with a passion, that platoon should not allow blacks, or Muslims, or Jews...

Try thinking...

I am thinking. The fact that someone is Black or Jewish will not really cause a distraction. Actually, sometimes it will, but it wont be the same type of distraction.

I was in the military and I know the issues. In fact, I don't believe women should be allowed to be in some of these units. I saw the distraction that it was to the soldiers.

When I was young, I looked at it as fun trying to fuck the female soldiers. In fact, there were a lot of relationships on the side and these huge parties off-post. These relationships caused an obvious distraction in the unit. Many of these young soldiers seemed more focus on their relationships with the female soldiers then they were of their job.

Ask yourself, can you control your own kids? Probably not. They do crazy things all the time. So how is an Infantry Captain going to control all his 18 year olds. I can tell you from experience we did a lot of crazy things in ways of drinking and going against the rules. We sometimes laughed at the Captain. The Captain did many times hand down the Article 15s and even sent a few guys to jail for a little bit. He even hung up the 15s on the "Wall of Shame" and everyone saw it right as they walked into company headquarters. That worked for some, but people still found a way to get themselves into trouble.

So I know the distraction that women caused. It was almost like a disease where no one thought about soldiering. Its like Facebook at work. So I think this is how these gay relationships will be throwing all these guys off.

I understand the emotions you have on this, but you are probably a lot older and more mature to the point where you can control yourself. However, I can tell you that a lot of those 18 year olds are still trying to find themselves and its difficult to control them even with the most oppressive measures like sending them to jail. Im telling you this will be a distraction.

Not the same "type" of distraction?

Oh, you mean hatred of gays is stronger than a white supremacist (yep, we have those in the military) and their hatred of blacks?

Maybe exposing young men to those they have irrational fears of will help them become better men, and better Americans.

Maybe it will help them become better soldiers, defending the home of the brave, the free, the straights, and yes...the gays.

I am not making an argument based on an appeal to fear or emotions. Quite the opposite. I am making a rational argument, that you are having problems with.

There will always be some distraction, period. The sooner these young men learn to cope with any particular distraction, the sooner they face their irrational fears of people and cultures different than their own, the better they will be equipped to handle their military life, and life after the military.

There was this one post I remember called Fort Lee or "Fort Leisure". It had the most female soldiers of any post and it was a lot of fun. I didnt get anything constructive done and by the time I left I was out of shape and "8thefuckup" It was fun, but it didnt help me prepare for war.

You sound like someone who has never been in management. I have been in management and its not as easy as it seems. Its not easy to control people. You have to persuade and cajole. You have to use charisma. If you think ordering someone about and giving them an Article 15 (non-judicial punishment) is going to keep people under control, then you have another thing coming.

A Captain has to keep control of 200 men and a LT 40 men. This is a large group of guys and its simply impossible to have total control over them. If only one guy becomes unfocused and he doesnt do his job, then that might mean 10 or more others dead.

If you have ever managed anyone before, then you would know its just not that easy to keep people under control especially young 18 year olds.

Actually the young are easier to manage. It is the old farts that are hard.

Frankly I don't really don't care one way or another. Some squids have a diffrent opinion. What boat where you on?

Quote from lindq:

Based on my own experience onboard ship, that is untrue.

Issues of ANY kind involving sex are distruptive to a workplace. This is especially true in a military unit where you can't simply walk away from someone who shows an interest in a sexual relationship, or ignore someone who wants to aggressively display their sexual preferences.

Don't Ask Don't Tell was a good rule for everyone. It was stupid to overturn it.

Of course you are a neo-con....So you wouldn't know shit from shinola if it fell outta the sky and started wriggly your on face. And you didn't serve so your opinion means absolutely shit.

Quote from AAAintheBeltway:

Anyone who says this will not hurt the military is either being dishonest or is totally clueless. The fact that democrats and 8 republicans were content to pass this anyway shows just how powerful the homosexual lobby is. They are openly gloating today and see forcing homosexual marriage on unwilling states as a slam dunk now. [/B]

So?

Don't we have soldiers trained to follow orders and just be focused on the task at hand?

Or do we have a bunch of emotionally driven adolescent people who have nothing better to do than to fight amongst themselves over what is really none of their business?

Why is it that most homophobes think gays want to have sex with them?

Sort of vain, isn't it? Homophobes really think some gay guy is going to come on to them? Why is that?

You think some gay guy in a group of straight men is going to risk getting a code red order from a Col. Jessup by acting in a way that is going to antagonize the group?

My guess is that like prison, there is a lot more gay sex going on in the military than any one is going to freely admit...

Guys are horny, and nothing but guys around...and you think it doesn't happen anyway?

Get over yourselves homophobes...the straights aren't the gays type anyway...they like gays, not straights...at least in a sexual way.

Seriously, be honest and ask yourself straight guys...how many times have you been hit on by a gay guy?

Gays like gays, not straights...so straights have nothing to worry about.

...unless of course the macho guys inside aren't as straight as they want every one else to think...

zzz you are totally clueless about young gay guys in cities where there are lots of gay guys.

Young gay guys hit on young good looking guys in cities probably at the same ratio as straight guys hit on good looking women. I am sure they think how do they know if the guy is gay if they don't hit on him.

Just like straight guys trying to meet young women, it happens in bars, on campus, on trains, in parks, at the tennis courts. The large majority of the time it is rather humorous (especially when its someone else being hit on and not you).

You need to stop acting like you know something zzz. You clearly do not.

And there are serious issues for the military to consider.

There is going to by a whole new dynamic to be concerned about when troops are deployed out in the field. Not because gay guys are hornier their straight but because they will have more access (pardon the pun). Condoms will have to be issued with the food rations.

Quote from Dr. Zhivodka:

And you didn't serve so your opinion means absolutely shit.
The EXACT same logic I apply to Gabby's opinion on US politics, yet you defend his "right" to spew it anyway.

What time does your UA 3745 arrive in ATL?

race and sexual preference are personal choices?? Before you have had several rants about how sexual orientation is not a choice and they are born that way... Guess you have changed your tune....

So you think that heterosexual men have gay relationships if there are no women around?? LOL!!! Well that's very telling. Indeed you do seem to have an intimate familiarity with the preferences of gays... No coincidence I'm sure... Wonder what is ex wife who left him has to say about this... :D :D :D LOL!!!

Note that he also proclaims to be familiar with homosexuality in the context of prison... :D :D :D

This is typical opinion amongst gays, that "straight guys do it too" and that the more masculine men are "really not that straight".

Gays often feel a need to project their gayness onto straight men, and pretend that homosexuality is far more common than it actually is. It's a very natural need to want to feel "normal", and so gays tell themselves these things so as to feel less different from everyone else...

Quote from AAAintheBeltway:

The objections about showering, etc are beside the point. People today are used to being around gays.

Implementing this will cost a lot of soldiers their careers. Every military unit will now have a GLBT officer, responsible for imposing PC doctrine and punishing noncompliance. Chaplains will probably be ordered not to teach what the Bible says about homosexual conduct. Many will quit in disgust. Soon there will be the inevitable complaints that gays are being discriminated against and that affirmative action is needed to ensure the promotion of gays.

So this is going to bring down the military? That's like saying well paid auto workers brought down the economy. I don't think we need to worry about a couple of homo's jerking each other off in Doc's "fighting hole". The greatest threat to this country are the board room guys in the 2000 dollar suits and their corrupt political brothers. They'll bring this country down while waving the flag and singing God Bless America the entire time. And we all know a good percentage of those mofo's are secretly traveling the hershey highway as well.
