Why We Need Fewer Cops.

Perhaps what we need, instead of more police, is fewer, better educated, better paid police. Fines should not flow directly, nor indirectly, back to police departments, nor should they flow to courts.

you don't have to worry about better paid govt workers.

when you consider the pensions police have... they get to retire with the equivalent of 2 to 5 million dollars after they put in 20 years. Plus in California many of them are making 6 figures. I know this for a fact. I have seen the tax returns as part of my job.

when you put 2 govt workers together you have some of the biggest spenders we know because they never worry about saving anything. 140 in disposable income after taxes for cop and a teacher I know.

2 principals and you have almost hedge fund royalty.

Perhaps what we need, instead of more police, is fewer, better educated, better paid police. Fines should not flow directly, nor indirectly, back to police departments, nor should they flow to courts.

Salaries must always be considered relative to the local economy. Perhaps something is badly out of whack in California, though my impression is that the West Coast is a very high cost of living area. Are the qualifications consistent with the salaries offered? Perhaps on the West Coast fines and confiscated assets are being used to overcompensate police? Do you know what happens to fines and confiscated assets in your area of the country?

or perhaps this is how democrats get elected... by overpaying public union employees and creating demand for more and more of them with millions of non citizens.

Then getting the unions to pay them back with campaign bribes.

here is a link to the elementary school district my kids attended last year til we moved to an equivalent school district.

I don't think you will accept it but its true. You will see some 6 figures... and this is elementary school for a not full year job. Plus what turns out to be the equivalent of multimillion dollar retirements.

Look at the total pay and benefits on the right edge... its insane... really.
But, I will say my kids got a good education there... although it might be better where we moved.

And this upsets you for what reason?

Are these figures out of line with those of other public employees in California?

When did these figures reach this point? Under Brown or under Schwarzenegger?

db... you should start by understanding that on 35% of the people in CA pay income taxes and taxpayers and good businesses have left the state in droves.

this type of irresponsible govt action can lead to detroit type action where they can't even keep the lights on any more.

it conerns me because this is a great place to live with great people and greedy selfish politicians are doing their best to destroy it.
