I've studied similar like diseases in college...even then we saw things in immunology that you can not see with the human eye. It's just not taken seriously even by students getting their degrees in it.
Reality of the seriousness usually doesn't take place until you visit patients in the hospital with an infectious disease. Suddenly, all those words and pictures in academic books have a new meaning including what you see under a microscope.
It truly adds meaning to that wash your hands properly before eating with the family at the table or you're being careful while around people that cough / sneeze without covering their mouth / nose.
Now throw in some religious beliefs, its a tough pill for many to swallow about Covid-19 or any other serious disease.
I have a neighbour and her strong Catholic beliefs almost caused her to lose one of her legs from poor blood circulation because she couldn't see the disease being caused by the poor blood circulation.
To her, pray more and massage the leg more before many months of listening to her husband that she needed to take the medicine prescribed her to minimize the clotting in her legs.
People just don't believe what they can not see and its a an open door way for the conspiracy theorists.
P.S. That' neighbour believes Covid-19 is a hoax but she now takes her medicine to prevent developing any underlying medical conditions.

The profound ignorance and stupidity of the American public during this pandemic is shocking.
The rest of the WORLD gets it and wears masks -- yet many here refuse, even as hospitalization rates skyrocket. Deaths will surge, too.
Somebody explain to me why are Americans so fucking stupid and stubborn about this??? You do see ER rooms and cv hospital wards and morgue footage on CNN, right?
I suspect for some it's going into denial because the horrifying reality of this situation is too overwhelming to cope with.
Seriously, you don't see people in smart disciplined countries like Japan do dumbass deadly things like covid parties or say it's a hoax .... only in dumbass America.
Gun sales surge, look at RGR stock. Civil unrest, looting and massive deaths are coming. The nightmare begins.

Europe understands it enough that they've now shut their borders to the U.S.A. not because of karma after the U.S.A. done the same to them early in the Pandemic...
Europe just does not want that ignorance / stupidity in their countries because they know those are the people that are not going to be socially responsible if you allow them access to your country considering they have been enabling a health crisis in the U.S.A.
You just don't shut your borders and have a lockdown...cause trillions of lost income to your economy if its just a hoax.

Actually, it not shocking. I say that, because I have traveled to many parts of the U.S. and have traveled thorough armpits such as Laramie, Tempe, Scottsdale, Tuscaloosa, Roanoke, and Sanford, to name a few.
Their denial is in alignment with their overall profile.
The unwashed scream for answers. Its just a repeat of ever scene where the villagers have a terrible plan and don't trust their champion.
The villagers charge the castle, the dragon toasts a few of them and they beg the champion for help after unnecessary losses.
