fully agree. Lets not make life more difficult than it is. Tax is on income not on money spend. I dont want to pay a tax because I eat bread, breathe air...
A flat tax on income will of course make the the hard working and educated richer but will not necessarily make poor people poorer. Still the income and wealth gap will widen. And I never had a problem with that, who promised anyone that everyone has a right to earn as much and be as wealthy as their neighbor?
Remove EVERY subsidy and deduction under the sun. You know whats going to happen? The government will actually have more money in their pockets than before.
FURTHER, disallow ANY sort of donation or political contribution, NOTHING. Instead, each party will be paid a campaign and maintenance fee out of a fund specially set up for such purpose. You will see, from one day to the next all the filth, corruption, and bribery in Washington DC will be gone from one day to the next and the money wasted on tons of projects that were needless but motivated by lobbyists can be saved or spent elsewhere.
Result, a country that is ready to compete head to head with the upcoming challenges. Right now, however, the US looks more like Rome looked like right before its demise. Who needs millions of dollar expensive election campaigns? To satisfy the fat and sick couch potatoes? I honestly hope for another huge crash so people really go back to the basics and re-think what is really going on with our lives, people who represent us, and our true values.
Sorry, had to let this one go although some points were unrelated...well somehow they are related...
Quote from bigarrow:
The FairTax is a bad idea unless what you are after is making the ultra rich, richer and widening the income gap. You know it is the rich who dreamed up the idea of a retail sales tax. They will pay millions less while you and I will pay more.
If you are truly wanting fair, then tax ALL income the same rate, even for the very poor and for capital gains, dividends, corporations, churches, everyone and every entity will be taxed the same on every dollar earned and also on unearned income.
Remove the mortgage deduction and charity deductions along with a host of other deductions that are basically government subsidies.
Another problem solved, now it's Miller Time.
