Why is there no looting in Japan?

Quote from Ricter:

Were the looters in Chile racially different from the general population? I'm just asking, I don't know. It appears to me that Chile is quite "homogenous".

Chile is much more multi-ethnic than many other South American countries.

Metaphors
Matter:
Disaster Myths,
Media Frames,
and Their
Consequences
in Hurricane
Katrina

"It has long been understood by disaster researchers that
both the general public and organizational actors tend to
believe in various disaster myths. Notions that disasters
are accompanied by looting, social disorganization, and
deviant behavior are examples of such myths. Research
shows that the mass media play a significant role in promulgating
erroneous beliefs about disaster behavior.
Following Hurricane Katrina, the response of disaster
victims was framed by the media in ways that greatly
exaggerated the incidence and severity of looting and
lawlessness. Media reports initially employed a “civil
unrest” frame and later characterized victim behavior
as equivalent to urban warfare. The media emphasis on
lawlessness and the need for strict social control both
reflects and reinforces political discourse calling for a
greater role for the military in disaster management.
Such policy positions are indicators of the strength of
militarism as an ideology in the United States."

If the unrest is largely a fabrication, why would the politico-military establishment need more control?

Quote from Trader7793:

Do not forget the role that morality plays in things such as looting. Even unintelligent people can make the decision to reject criminal and immoral behavior. Morality is based on the values and belief system that was passed along by one's family and peers when growing up. For example a person who believes that they will have an accounting for their actions during their lives when they leave this world, is far less likely to participate in things like looting, even if they are unable to figure out complex mathematical formulas.

precisely ...

although, intelligence obviously plays a significant role, one must consider the long term effects of robbing, pillaging and destroying the very fabric of a civilized society before breaking a window and stealing a TV.

but that consideration defines cultural norms and is established by the larger group as a whole and that conclusion is shared by those subscribing to that particular culture regardless of intelligence...

I mentioned small town Mid-west, these folks have established a culture in which calamity does not present a situation in which to break into FootLocker and get some new sneakers. Japan, is the definition of such a culture.

Hence the anxiety of having someone like Obama in the White House. This dude in no way, shape or form, defends the culture I subscribe to. Excuse After Fucking Excuse, is all you get from this guy. Now his excuses are no longer playing, he simply exits stage left. Expect for him to primarily blame racism in his memoirs. It's such a broken record by now that it has reached the level of comedy. (Actually, it's been laughed at for decades)

Just reading in the paper, that after the 1925 earthquake, fearmongering bollocks caused Japanese civilians to murder some 6000 odd Korean/Chinese immigrants.

Some asshat blamed the earthquake on foreign saboteurs.

That's nothing, 15 years later the Japanese murdered 6 MILLION Chinese.

Some asshat blamed the earthquake on foreign saboteurs.
There were those that blamed that tsunami a few years ago on Bush. There are some incredibly gullible people in the world.

Precisely, which is why it's clear the whites and yellows are either vastly more morally corrupt, unintelligent, or both, as their behavior has accomplished the destruction of civilized society for tens and hundreds of millions.

But, please, continue your focus on the petty crime of your neighborhood.
