It sounds maybe nutty-conspiratorial but I think the media sort of forces the GOP to select inappropriate candidates systemically.
Its a rigged game.
Between that and the democrats realizing that illegal immigrants tend to be democrats has disturbed any equilibrium that previously existed between the two parties.
