It's obvious. California is the gateway to/from Asia. Everything comes through the port from the freighters, and then gets distributed throughout the country. As far as IT, it is all about attracting the top talent, and that is why Facebook and Google has lounges, gyms, yoga classes, etc. It is much easier to attract someone to come to California where the weather is great, and have a huge variety in culture. It appeals to the talent, their family, and parents. Taxes are high, but these guys make a ton of money, so the standard of living is already high. California is great when you can afford it.

Some people think people who live in CA are friendly on the surface but not in real life. Some of the friendliest people I ever met were in Georgia. So if people in Georgia are still really friendly, if you move out here you might be a little put off.
I never had to make much of an adjustment because I came out here for grad school. I did have to learn to pronounce Nevada and Orange differently. But otherwise it was easy.
But, there may be an adjustment.
Maybe lease a house for a year.
Maybe make sure you join golf club or tennis club or something.
That is what everyone warned me about before I moved out here.
And there are some black sheep out here. But, by and large coastal so cal is filled with people who either got pulled here by business or chose to live here for sports, fitness, the oceans or the mountains.
And, as it gotten very expensive... it really is business now. bio tech, communications and alt sports marketing is huge.
My guess is that your assumptions about what makes an economy strong are completely wrong.
Hypothesis: "horrible high taxes, huge nanny state" = no industry
Test: Towns with the highest tax rates, typically the most affluent. States with the highest tax rates also the ones with the biggest economies.
