why do people here hate this guy?

I had a guy come up to me at a hood-assed bodega and he says "Bro.... cut loose with some of that green". No gun.

I gave him a $20...Cause I'm nice...... and then I rolled down the windows to let him view my "bitch".

Works every time.

Un-benouced to his dumb ass.... she would kiss him to death.

Well no offense to you but it sounds like you were shaken down right on the street. You are in Chicago right? You may have saved your own life for $20. Those people are so hard that I doubt he even cared that you had a dog. You could have pointed a gun at him and he may not have flinched.

I am not a tough guy but my advice for people who do not go to the range constantly or handle guns constantly is to get a revolver and a shotgun. I once had to deal with some potential road rage from another driver. I went to reach for my .40 cal hand gun and I felt like an awkward dumbass in the heat of the moment. When your heart is pumping and the adrenaline is rushing the last thing you want to deal with is fumbling with a clip and taking the safety off. A revolver will not jam and is much easier to handle.

The shotgun is great because you don't need to practice your aim constantly. Double Ought Buckshot and spray and pray. For folks like me who don't practice self-defense constantly.

I had a similar thing happen to my mother. I don't think it was a scam but some hispanic woman (who could barely speak English, not being racist) was somewhat upset about a car that a neighbor had sold her. I told her that I have nothing to do with deals being done between her and my mother's neighbor. I offered to call the police on her behalf and she can complain to them about it. Once I said "police" she got the heck out of there.

Less than an hour later I hear a knock on the door and some guy (this time redneck cajun type) insists on selling me shrimp and fish. He was one of these door to door meat and fish guys but without the nice truck. This guy is literally trying to force his product on me and telling me how all of the neighbors buy from him. I told him "I don't eat that". He just stands there staring at me at the doorstep like I am crazy and says "so you don't eat shrimp?". It is like this guy is trying to have a staring contest with me. I pull out my cell phone and pretend to take a call and I say to him "gotta go bye bye" and I shut the door. He wanders off down the street to harass the next neighbor. This guy really pissed me off with his confrontational attitude. I am sure it works on old grandmas. I don't get how your mother-in-law was strong armed into taking delivery on behalf of a neighbor?

They had gone to the neighbor's house a week earlier and was rebuffed... but their ploy is to get your name to use it later. So Ted the neighbor tells fish guy that he is going to Hawaii so I don't want any fish... scammer comes to our house and tells grandma that, "Your neighbor Ted left for Hawaii and didn't pay for his fish delivery!"

Well your family is lucky to have a real defender like you in the mix. I understand that it probably works on old ladies. These guys are absolute scum for shaking down old ladies. If some jagoff tried that with me I would just say "I am not responsible for deals between you and my neighbor. I will call the police and you can explain it to them". Unfortunately they run right over grandmas most of the time. I am sure there is a tough grandma out there that can be logical in the heat of a shakedown.

Ahhhhhh...... its all in attitude too.
This dude actually commented, as many folks do.... on how pretty she was.

I guess it all comes from what your swag is and where you feel comfortable. If one exudes fear... they're toast. If you're a white boy in the hood with no fear....you inspire fear. The craziest mother-f*cker you will ever meet is the white boy that intimidates the young blacks. And I mean the ones that have the heat. And also.....has the sense to smell true trouble where it brews. Gotta avoid the meth-heads to be sure.... and spot them fast.... and then talk the right sh*t as the situation requires.

I guess its all in where you came from.

For the most part.... even the most violent are good. But knowing how to not set off a trigger is KEY. Fuck that up.... you're dead. Believe it or not... they want to respect white people that are ghetto. And rightfully so.

Revolvers are fine but have a poor grip-angle for follow-up shots. A striker-fired handgun (Glock, S&W M&P) often have just the trigger safety (absurd), but are drop-safe and foolproof to operate. A G17 has 17 + 1 of 9MM, so 3x the capacity of a revolver.

The neighbor Ted is stupid for telling total strangers his travel plans. Must be some retirement community or something (not trying to get into your personal business).

She felt taken almost immediately, but the money isn't an issue. I don't care if it's $20... you don't try to shine or intimidate people on their doorstep.

I told the clowns that they can have their $40 worth of bait fish back, but they were "insistent" that they were not leaving w/o $600 in cash.

These types know the game. They know they can say whatever they like, emboldened by the fact that it will take the cops 10-15 minutes to get there. I gave them the boilerplate that they were not welcome and were trespassing. Sure, I could've walked inside and waited for the cops. They mentioned my wife so I knew that they confident in the odds. 2 on 1 is meaningless if #1 goes down.

It's a gated single family development. Ted has CCTV cameras and there are unarmed patrols which is worthless, but yeah, I was surprised he was actually in HI. I thought it was just a ruse to shut them down. He is a doc with a condo in Oahu.

I'm not going to debate you on firearms. I think you clearly know more than I do on the subject. I am just speaking from a perspective of what I feel is easiest for someone who does not practice often. I know how I felt when I had to fumble and locate the clip quickly. Really the better answer is to just be better organized and prepared. Owning a gun is not enough. How fast can you access it and load it? Many states do not allow the gun to be loaded unless you get a concealed carry license. This means you have to reach for the ammo one way or another.

I got a 5 shot Rossi .38 cal with a short barrel. I should step up my game to a Glock like you recommend and get over the whole "fumble with clips in the heat of the moment" thing.
