Fear of death is due to the unknown, jihadist believe they know where they are going and what will happen....
I don't fear death as much as I do prolonged suffering and/or loss of cognitive ability.
People don't death, they fear the process of dying. Death itself is not feared, it's been deemed unacceptable. Hence the multiple beliefs and philosophies about what comes next.
I 'd like to believe that people don't fear death, and fear the process of dying.
However, from my limited observations of people in terminal phase in hospitals, these
are under heavy painkillers, so they are not into any pain and could very much die
"peacefully". However, most - inspite of dyeing without physical sensations - still
fight to stay alive.
More likely, people do fear what comes after death , because after all, death
as far each person's limited experience goes mean that within one year of dying
one is roughly sure of no longer continuing whetever one is doing just now.

People do not fear death. What people really fear is that there may be nothing after death. When you get down to the brass tax, that is all it is. People fearing heaven and hell and all that bullshit? Nope. People fear that there will be neither of those things. And nothing else.
THAT is the fear.
Contemplate it deeply each night you go to sleep, and come to your conclusions. Contemplate it deeply enough, and you'll realize that you're fucked dude. Yes! I thought the exact same thing. I don't believe I would fear death - or nowhere near as much at least - were my son a man with his own family. But he's not even 10 yet. I need to be there for him and the thought of something happening to me before I get him ready for the world is what scares the shit out of me.
Mine is 15. So he is already holding his own, but I'd feel better once he is older.
I also wonder how much of this is the fact that I do not feel my wife could successfully raise him on her own.

IF there was a Hell after death, would you say you'd qualified to get there with no questions ?
The question is pertinent in the sense that most who want to believe Hell does not exist many times
have a vested interests, in the same vein that for instance a thief'd rather there be no police building.

You're asking me to tell you whether I believe I've qualified myself to go to hell, if I believed in a hell? That's a very odd question.
