Why do atheist's fear God?

...Seriously, apathy would seem like a far more natural response to the question of religion for this crowd.
Not if it leaches into the secular mainstream, as it always seem to do in one form or another. That's the problem with toxins. They leach where they are not wanted unless precautions are taken. And even then...

Is it because they are full of sin and don't want to be judged by a higher power? They want to able to do anything they want no matter how evil it is and not be judged? Are they just paranoid? Are they afraid they will end up in hell? Are they mentally ill?

What is their problem?

how about a cancer treatment ?? would you like to have one without being sure whether you have cancer or not ?? or you'd rather go through lab tests before?
yes, cancer treatment for FT, tomorrow! I B E L I E V E he must have cancer!!

I think people are atheists because they are not trying to communicate with or have a relationship with God. Its pretty easy to not be an atheist. I think it must be pretty difficult to be an atheist.

Especially the part about thinking that this all got here by random chance.

It's also pretty easy (and indeed desirable :p), not to try to communicate or have a relationship with the Tooth Fairy.

But I agree, I think it is pretty easy not to be atheist. Essentially, you just stop thinking.

comparing the tooth fairy to a Creator or Tuner of this universe which appears very finely tuned for life. but you already know that argument... so why are you acting so illogical. It takes more faith to say it all got this tuned for life by random chance.

As far as the random chance argument went...it's only by leaving out all other options. Like inevitability for instance. A Universe due simply to the effects of gravity.

But no you're right. It's comparing apples to oranges. The Tooth Fairy is more likely to be real.

,

Jem, maybe we could reverse that, sort of.: One reason a person does not try to communicate with or have a relationship with God is because they are an atheist. Because atheists do not believe in the existence of "a God" they quite naturally would not try to communicate with a God nor would it occur to them to try and have a relationship with a God. Nor would they, of course, fear God.

So the question posed by the O.P. is rather silly.

I'm an atheist. It is quite easy. Not difficult at all. In fact I have no difficulty saying "Fuck you, God" . Now if I feared God, would I say that? I hardly think so. So, fuck you God!

Oh, I must be the devil. (I don't believe in the Devil either.)

Oops, I think I'm having a heart attack. (Just kidding.)

Jem, I respect you, I just think your views on religion are a bit silly. I am aware of the psychological hold that religion can have on a person, and has had on people down through the centuries. In that respect religion is rather interesting.

Just so you'll know, I don't think we got here completely by random chance. I believe that the laws of physics and chemistry dictate what is possible and what isn't, and they are very restrictive. So, whereas randomness may enter in to the picture at some point, it is hardly the driving force behind our existence. I don't know many things, and I don't know what I don't know. The only thing I'm certain about is that their wasn't a "supreme being", that would fit any definition of those words, that "created" the Universe. I'm OK with not knowing.
