Actually the Starbucks was the original location of Gino's. Apparently it burned down and then Ginos moved right next door. Then Jay's (on Walton and Rush) moved to the other side of the block (State St. & Walton) and Gino's took over that space (or expanded into it).

I wish I knew all the places on Rush the street during the glorious days of "Rush Street" during the 50s and 60s.

Anybody remember the KFC where Big Bowl was? on Cedar
 
About a month ago, an old friend of mine who was in town for a few days and lives in that area, suggested we meet up at Jay's first since it was convenient. Lo and behold, Jay's had been levelled, presumably to make room for some more condo's.

I remember well the KFC on Cedar and Rush; there was also a Wendy's right next to it on the North side of Cedar. There was another great grub spot down the street on Rush just south of Elm called Bagel Nosh. Up until about 5 years ago that Walgreens(where Barnes and Noble now stands) was there. And if I remember correctly, there was a McDonald's just south of that Walgreen's. Up the street, one building south of the DIvision and State corner, there was a Rose Records and next to that was Rubus Game Room.

Something that was before my time which I just found out from my aunt-a Jewel occupied the Anthropologie store, across the street from the Corner Bakery back in the mid to late 1960's

Your aunt is right (I think)...but you have it switched....Anthropologie is where Walgreens was and when they tore down the building that was at the corner of Rush and Cedar (SW corner) in order to build Barnes and Noble, I saw painted on the north wall of the building which now houses Anthropologie a big 50s style painted sign for A&P (if I remember correctly), although it could have been Jewel. (but for some reason I remembered it being an older "Supermarket", like the A&P or Sentry). So this sign (I think it said Parking for A&P customers only ) indicates that the A&P (or whatever it was) was at that corner (where B&N is).

I love that kind of stuff. If I could afford to do it and if there was any money in it, I would love to be an "urban archeologist" and figure out the history of certain remnants that exist in a city. Like when I first moved here, I saw the Tip Top Tap sign on the Allerton Hotel, but alas, it was no more. So, I read every book to see if I could learn what the TTT was like or find any pictures. I spent a day at the Historical Society library (upstairs--appts only) and found maybe 3 pictures of what it looked like. Same with Club Alabam. Cool stuff.

I'm relatively a Chicago newbie... but...

Damn... KFC is much better than that Big Bowl aka worst Asian Restaurant in my humble opinion...

Anyways... Corner's Bakery's Commuter (Croissant w/ Egg, Bacon, Tomatoes ) is the best snack to eat while trading...

Chipotles are great...

Tsunami, next to Biggs sucks...

Biggs as a matter of fact is not great but not bad... so-so-place

Chi-town Pizza's OK

That new place... was it Zoom? The Johnny Rockets lookin' diner sucks...

Wait... there's nothing really good on Rush except for Dublins... (OK, not great but it's OK...) and Corners Bakery. Oh... for nitro's sake... Subway is OK too.

Maybe he is talking about the one that used to be located on the east side of State street one half block south of Division. I dont know if its still around, havent been in there since around 96.
 
I can't believe they're building a CVS and Washington Mutual at the corner of Rush and Division. We need more late night restaurants that are open 24/7...

Sheeeez... Rush is dead... All my hangouts are now concentrated at Weed and River North...

I'm down for Zentra and Minx...

Wrigleyville sucks, too... I went there last Saturday and it sucked...
