If a trader at GS told his boss that he can't quantify his risk, but that he can assure him there is a good risk reward ratio and the trade is completely safe, he might be fired on the spot.
But if some public health official says that even though the Institute of Medicine cannot quantify the risk of these vaccinations, the risk reward ratio is good and they're completely safe, he's given a great big sloppy kiss by the leftist media.

Well, take a look at this chart of mortality rates and when vaccines were introduced and it shows a little different story. Other things, like general hygiene, have had much more to do with decreased mortality rates from these diseases than anything the gov't/drug industry complex has done.

The equivalent risk profile for a GS trader is that he is going to risk a chance of loss of 0.001167% for a possible gain to the firm of 10000.00% on this bet. His boss would fire him if he did not take the trade.

Let's start with that any chart involving vaccines should focus on a single vaccine and the infection rate (and death rate) of the associated disease within society. It is also good to keep in mind that because the United States has an excellent healthcare system for over a century that kept the mortality rate down does not mean the diseases cannot leave a long term crippling consequence for those who catch them.

Try looking at the mortality rate of measles, dude. That's what got this discussion started.
How does that fit your narrative? Did you look at the chart I provided on the mortality rate of measles before and after the introduction of the vaccine? And yet the outbreak of measles at disneyland is the exact reason for the left going apesht over vaccines.
The Institute of Medicine found that they cannot determine whether these vaccines cause other serious diseases. Period. Did you get that? Period is the operative word.
The other "studies" you refer to that are publicly available, are the studies that the Institute of Medicine has determined are not reliable. These are studies that are in the medical literature. The studies that have methodological problems. So why point to them? Is there any reason to point to studies that the gov't has found are not reliable? I say no.
Guess what. You're not going to persuade me that a measles vaccine should be forced on kids when the mortality rate is near zero without the vaccine and the Institute of Medicine cannot even tell me for sure if the vaccine can cause other serious diseases. So you might as well give it a rest.
What got me started on vaccines to begin with was an article I read a few years ago on flu shots. Most everyone here has heard the come-on to get one. That you'll decrease your chance of getting the flu by 40%.
The trouble with that figure is that it is totally misleading. The actual rate of people catching the flu when they have not been given a flu shot is 3%. The rate of people getting the flu who did get the flu shot is 1.6%.
So instead of giving all the facts, that your chance of getting the flu drops by 1.4%, they turn it into a percentage rate that totally misleads the consumer, of a drop of 40%.
How many people would get the flu shot if they gave them the accurate picture of lessening the chance of flu by 1.4%? I would bet a lot less. I know I stopped getting flu shots when I realized that I was putting God knows what in my body to lessen flu risk by 1%.

Measles is one of the diseases which has a lower mortality rate in countries with advanced medical systems but still has crippling side effects. Why don't we look at the before/after with some diseases with higher mortality rates.
Let's summarize again the results of the IOM study you keep pushing - the 2011 Adverse Effects of Vaccines: Evidence and Causality report from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) - "Of the 158 causality conclusions, the majority of cases (135 vaccine-adverse event pairs), the evidence was inadequate to accept or reject a causal relationship. Overall, the committee concludes that few health problems are caused by or clearly associated with vaccines." Only eight of the pairs showed any correlation, and the probability of side effects were minimal compared to the benefit. I have never quoted or pushed a study from the medical industry on this thread, only the ones from the IOM.
Why should a vaccine be forced on kids for a disease that has a low mortality rate in the U.S. due to its advanced medical system but a high mortality rate in less advanced countries - Do you want your kid and their friends to be living as cripples for the remainder of their lives? The three likely medical consequences of measles are:
- Pneumonia (a serious lung infection)
- Lifelong brain damage
- Deafness
