Not sure why (mostly coupons I think...those are the days we get...not all 7 days), but they offer incredible deals in an attempt to stay in circulation + it gives me free access to their website. Junk mail is superb for that purpose, as well. I read once that some guy living in a northern state (might have been Montana) made sure he got enough junk mail, including catalogs, to keep his fireplace burning all winter long. He signed up for everything. I get a stack about a foot deep weekly, and I haven't signed up for any of it. I've tried to tell some companies to stop sending, but they are undeterred. Unfortunately, I don't have a fireplace.
 
I like my little local papers. They have announcements about good things that people can do, stories about kids that achieve things. I've never, ever, from the first time I tried, been able to read the Los Angeles Times. Something about it just makes me ill. It doesn't resonate with me. The can take a story about puppies, sunshine, green grass and trees and turn it into some really dark shit. It seems to be aimed at the criminally insane and chronically unhappy.
