Who do you want to win the war?

I hardly have time to read through this entire thread but I did notice America referred to as a democracy. Are there any individuals knowledgeable of political science at Elite Trader? The USA used to be a republic, that is, it was designed as a republic. Since its inception and the civil war our leaders have become authoritative dictates to an uneducated populus, not totalitarian thank goodness, but a democracy I think not.
Another clarification: What is winning? Certainly US shall succeed in toppling the secularist Saddam's regime, but is this victory? From what I can tell, "Operation Iraqi Freedom" is a not-so-clever euphamism for operation Iraq as capitalist, oil-producing, US controlled empire puzzle piece. Winning is not the issue, maintaining power is, and in this veign, as current 'kings-of-the-hill,' only our inferior foreign friends can win.
I love this country. If I had my druthers we'd all be kings forever and peace would be universal, but this is not reality. For now though, US are safe and all against us be damned.

Technically you are correct. The US is a Republic. Now we like to think of ourselves as a democracy, which, other than our congress, and processes like the electoral college, we are.

We could call ourselves The Democratic Republic of the United States of America, but that would sound too much like Communist China and North Korea. (and East Germany until recently if memory serves me).

USA will have to do.

Agreed. I simply am not a fan of euphamisms. I should start a poll: which do you prefer? (1) Shell Shock, (2) Operational Fatigue, (3) Post-Tramautic Stress Disorder, (4) Gulf War Syndrome.

It's difficult to understand why there's so much anti-American sentiment. I love the USA. This is a great country.

We're not perfect, and we're the envy of much of the world, but that's no reason to dislike America. We have to be responsible, and our taxes go to feed many people in other countries, so that's a leadership role and a humanitarian one, we take.

Preventing terrorists from hurting our people, and innocents elsewhere, is important ...
