Yes, he expresses his issues. However, he uses them to rationalize and justify his racism. Hardly an uplifting example.
dbphoenix : DHOHHI has the merit of having done something concretely to try to change the situation.
If not for people like DHOHHI, many lives would have fared for the worse.
Now it is about understanding why , inspite of his experience, he still view people of the US country in a divisive way.
I think it is important to understand his experience first and how the conditioning worked on him. Yep psychology as usual. His experience counts.
If what any of what he says is true.
But true or not, that doesn't change the fact of his bigotry.
KIPP is great. I just gave some $$ to a teacher in LA when they did a small fund raiser. Harlem Children's Zone (Geoff Canada just stepped down there) is also phenomenal. Harlem Village Academies (Deborah Kenny) is trying to also save a lot of the poor kids there. One of the things I think that's made some of these schools so desirable is that parents have to sign a contract where they're active in their kids' education. And when they follow through you obviously see more success in the students. And this is unlike so many of the kids I work with where teachers are lucky to get 10% of parents to come to parent-teacher conferences to discuss the students and their progress. Behavioral issues are so much less at the charters because the kids know there are real consequences. And thus, the demand to get into these schools is high oftentimes resulting in a lottery system for open spots. About 5 years ago I got a 5th grade girl in to Math & Science charter school through a lot of hard work and luck in the lottery. She aspired to go to a 'good' school and Mom refused to lift a finger to help her. She's now in 10th grade and still doing well. And in the end the kids who do well in school and pursue a higher education will succeed in life and not end up hanging out on streetcorners, in prison or a single Mom with 6 kids.
As far as expanding charter schools .. sometimes the public schools want to fight charter expansion. And .. not all charters are successful. Where I live each charter school has a board made up of parents, staff and some community members. It's imperative to have a good cohesive board with measurable objectives for the principal and teachers. And where I think even more success can occur is when there is some incentive compensation for teachers, particularly if it's a school with mainly higher poverty kids.
Sorry, but you apparently fail to even know what the definition of a bigot is ....
I'm not here to toot my own horn but I've helped a lot of poor black kids. Helped them see they can succeed. Built up their confidence.
Just because I call out crappy parents who don't give a shit about their own kids doesn't make me a bigot. I do the same with white parents. A super nice 5th grader who is white has a druggie Mom. They are basically homeless living in fleabag motels. The girl is a good student with some confidence problems but we've worked on that. Her future may likely be negatively influenced by her pathetic Mom. The fact is 90% of the kids in this school are black ... and thus, if your simple mind comprehended simple statistics, you'd realize I see a lot more crappy black parents than white due to the student population.
But rather than educate yourself on the real issues you post one sentence snarky replies.
What do you expect from a fagget like dbprancer who spends his days dancing around his basement suite wearing his grandmothers panties listening to judy garland records.

And how many kids have you worked with as a volunteer in the last decade? Oh that's right .. you're painting inside and need to wait for the paint to dry? Or are you just a recluse who is afraid to venture outside for fear a black guy may kick your ass?
