Which are the news release events that day traders should be aware and stay out?

Today's non-farm payrolls news release caused stock indices to crash within seconds. There is no time for day traders to react. Stops are useless. I myself could have been killed if I happen to hold a huge day-trading position during the news release. I'm new to day trading. This is scary.

How do elite day traders here manage this risk? Is there a website that informs day traders about the important news release of the day so that they can stay out of the market before the news is released?

There are many news release events out there. I'm referring to those which can cause stock indices to gap up/down huge and cause financial devastation to day traders.

I am using Trading View. Does trading view provide a good calendar for this kind of news release?

Cheap, easy, clean. There are more complicated calendars that involve grain reports and other softer commodities, but that one will serve you well if you just trade mainstream.

Thanks. I will take a look. There are many news release events out there. I'm mainly interested in the ones which can cause stock indices to gap up/down huge and cause financial devastation to day traders.

Day traders should not be impacted by news releases, per se. That should affect only position/swing traders.

Given enough time following the markets, you will learn to see what effect the combined Fundamental announcements with current price action will tell you about the markets for the day. It's directional bias and velocity.

But in day trading you would love the volatility. All the day-traders here scream days like this are to die for. Some will try to combine that FA reporting with TA and get a sense on where to set their day targets and stops.

Most US economic numbers are released 1 hour before the new york open.

But a few others including the big FOMC meetings are during trading hours.

Earnings reports just after the closing bell can move futures sometimes. eg. Earnings by big tech firms can really move the NQ futures. So good idea to be flat on the close during earning season unless you want specifically to trade those events.

I suppose having CNBC on in the background would give an extra heads up a lot of the time. If you can stand it.

Briefing.com has a free calendar. I use TWS alerts to warn me

FOMC meeting, FOMC minutes, anything at 7 AM PST that will move things, and 1250 PST when the MOC orders are shown-known.

Bloomberg has a "5 things to start your day" which summarizes the day's events including FOMC speaches.

Yep.

Also in regard to investing.com , you do not need to register to generate the event information but if you do register and login in and out under your username (it is all free) it saves your selection criteria so that you do not need to filter for country and "importance level" and specify your time zone every time you login. Otherwise it gets to be a pain.
 
L88, Here is a list from a Bloomberg article. Note the dates the FOMC members are speaking. Ordinary scheduled announcements are pretty simple to avoid. However, the speaking engagements are harder. Sometimes nothing happens, but other times, something is said and it moves the market. Notice how many there are next week, and monitor it... Everyone is "Fed sensitive" right now.

There is probably a twitter feed on all things Fed.
