Where does the word "insurgent" come from?

There is no way no how anyone can say, at least not with the info we have right now, that going to WAR with IRAQ was a war against terror. First off thats not how you fight a War against terror. Sending most of you r armed forces to a nation to destroy its infratsructure to then spend billions in repairing it is an absurd way to fight terror. Then having to cut funding for NY and LA to top it off is really ludacris and a slap in the face to every American citizen..How most of you still find it in your heart to follow like sheep is asinine...How can you guys post that this is about a WAR on terror?? when in fact the number one terrorist is still roaming free warning us that he will still get us and no seems to give a flying f**k...man i got some freaken swamp land for sale in central florida if you numbnuts are interested...peace

Based on the logic of your fearless leader, that is exactly what should be done.

However, the reality is that your overlords need a FOREIGN enemy. A boogeyman from afar. In this generation it will be those dirty nasty arabs waaaaay over there.

The canadians are too close. If the Canadians did it, the spin would be 19 lone nuts who miraculously got together. Instead, it was Al-Queda(sp), therefore EVERY arab is a potential terrorist, right?
Okay, so you weren't kidding.

Frightening.

Can you tell me in what way the Taliban government was hostile to the US?

I never heard them threatening the US with harm before the US threatened them with harm.

No idea why I'm bothering, but...

Al-Qaeda (A terrorist group led by Osama Bin Laden, in case you're not familiar with it.) has been attacking the U.S. since the 1990's. They blew up the U.S. embassies in Kenya & Tanzania, the U.S.S. Cole, and of course- 9/11.

<b>The Taliban government allowed Al-Qaeda to headquarter on Afghan soil.</b> Al- Qaeda openly trained terrorists and planned attacks on the U.S. from their bases in Afghanistan, and the Taliban let them do it. Is all of this news to you?

The US govt was negotiating with the Taliban government regarding the Trans-afghanistan pipeline, as well as paying the mullahs millions for practically stopping the heroin cultivation. It appears as though the sanctuary given to "the terrorists" only became a problem when the pipeline negotiations fell apart.

Nope, not news. Just REALLY curious as to where public enemy number one, Sadd....I mean Osama, could be?

Maybe he's in Pakistan, hmmmmm......oh that's right, can't look there, they got the bomb!

Rearden, you seem fairly informed, try reading 1984. Orwell saw all of this coming.

One of my all time favorite literary works, which I have quoted here repeatedly:

No, it's not really 'for the greater good', and it's not really 'For The Children'.

The true reason behind prohibition of activities between consenting adults, was perfectly explained by Orwell in 1984:

'You understand well enough ~how~ the party maintains
itself in power. Now tell me ~why~ we cling to power. What
is our motive? Why should we want power? Go on, speak,' he
added as Winston remained silent.
[...]
Nevertheless Winston did not speak for another moment or
two.
[...]
<b>'You are ruling over us for our own good,' </b>he said
feebly. 'You believe that human beings are not fit to govern
themselves, and therefore -

He started and almost cried out. A pang of pain had shot
through his body. O'Brien had pushed the lever of the dial
up to thirty-five.

'That was stupid, Winston, stupid!' he said. 'You should
know better than to say a thing like that.'

He pulled the lever back and continued:

'Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is
this. <b>The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We
are not interested in the good of others; we are interested
solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or
happiness: only power, pure power.
</b> What pure power means you
will understand presently. We are different from the
oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing.
All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were
cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian
Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they
never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They
pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized
power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just
round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings
would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that
no one seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it.
Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a
dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes
the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. <b>The
object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture
is torture. The object of power is power. Now do you begin
to understand me?'</b>

'Now do you begin to understand me?'

Absolutely. Now if have also read The Foundation, by Issac Asimov, then try to understand being in the belly of a dying empire. An empire that will not die alone. An empire where it's citizens are nearly parrallel in mental and moral state to the citizen's at the end of her grandmother, Rome.

Like Rome, America will have to raise her taxes to pay for her ever less productive wars. The house of cards goes ever higher. Those that can leave will. The rest will live in poverty while their goverment tells them all is well. Virtually slaves.

I believe that you are from Israel. When America goes, and she will unless she looks to her own house, what becometh Israel?

:(

In fact, what galls me most about this war is that the deluded don't see that true patriots of this nation cannot help but oppose this "war"( Bush declared the war won some time ago).

Our administration seems impervious to the reality that we are spending far more than we are taking in. Yes, the government can print money all day long, but that devalues the currency. It is tragic to see the greatest experiment in our history in the United States of America pissed away so needlessly.

I fear that we have taken a course from which we will only recover at great cost and sacrifice, if at all.
