When People Ask "What do you do for a living" What say you?

I find people are generally prejudicial towards 'day-trading', and look at it more as a parasitic activity for losers. That view is based totally out of ignorance, but it's very common, especially amongst Liberals, ime.

For that reason, I'm reconsidering how I brand myself. What to say without lying, inviting more questions then necessary, but without revealing too much info?

The three general reactions I get from people when I tell them I'm a trader:

1) they laugh
2) they ask me to teach them
3) they ask if I manage money

Why not tell the truth? I sit around in my PJ's and lose $.

The first step in improving a situation is to be honest with the actual reality.
So what are you going to do about this ( losing part) so as to move to winning part?:)

All very good reactions with # 3 being the only viable end game for the profession.

How you are perceived would depend to a large degree on how you're living. If you live like an average person then people will question why you don't work a normal job. Is it because you want to be at home alone all day? Anti-social? Mad scientist type?

But if you're living large it would be different. No one will laugh at you or give you crap for being a trader if you drive around in a Ferrari.

The question is: is there anyone out there living large off nothing more than raw capital gains year after year after year after year?

You are on elitetrader so you are definitely on the right forum in asking this question.:)
