When People Ask "What do you do for a living" What say you?

I will proundly tell them I am a work at home trader.

the problem with this reply is often invite dicussion about trading/investment.

they will ask whick stock to buy? or they will tell stories about how someone made a killing or lost a shit

I am not interested in dicussion, since I think they are ameatures, no value talk to them

I hope someone can give a good answer, let them shut up.
 
If someone ask you "What Do You Do For A Living" (assuming you actually trading for a living as in you don't have another job)...

I am a business owner that trades in the markets via my own capital instead of working for someone.

End of story.

Easy. You offer your advice and caveat it by saying, "this is just my opinion. I could be wrong." Nine times out of 10, they are just asking to make conversation with you.

Believe it or not, no one considers a home based trader some special guru. In towns like NYC, a bank or hedge fund trader isn't considered some special guru (unless they are uber successful and prominent).

Most people in the same socio-economic circles (doctors, corporate lawyers, business executives) don't care about the financials markets and certainly don't care about your views.

Their passive 401k, Ira and other accounts -which many don't understand-- are on the forefront in the mind of your listed demographic.

I'm not big on not being honest about what I do. I used to be a professional poker player and when I told people this I got a few different types of responses. The first was "how can you make money doing that"? The second was "wow that's so cool"! The third and the only one that struck me as rude was "how much do you make"? I would never ask even a close friend how much they make but for some reason if you play poker people have no problem asking.

My grandfather used to tell people on airplanes who asked him what he did, "I'm an ordained minister". That always ended the conversation.
