It's sad in a way. They don't even realize that what they rail against is exactly what has given them the quality of life America offers all who will make the effort to succeed. Another example of people having been given too much. When you give them a LOT, they are not only ungrateful, they piss-and-moan that you didn't give them even more... and sooner.

I think that some of the more rabid moonbats are railing against conservative beliefs because they are beginning to suspect (in some small corner of their distorted little minds) that what they have supported has led to a train wreck. It's the ultimate cognitive dissonance as they come to see that what they have supported for so long in principle is actually reflected better in a different political class/theory than what they have invested so much time and money on.
Expect the rabid defenses to reach a stunning crescendo in the months/years to come before complete despair sets in.
This is what is so great about holding to many conservative and libertarian principles - you are proven right through time. It just takes more time than we want to wait.

The study of history requires commitment, first of all. Regardless, the liberal and Keynesian motto is fond of saying "It's different this time" so history, to them, is quite inconvenient.
