What We Can Learn From Liberals

Quote from fhl:

The article states "Graciously, Gore tells consumers how to change their lives to curb their carbon-gobbling ways: Switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs, use a clothesline, drive a hybrid, use renewable energy, dramatically cut back on consumption. Better still, responsible global citizens can follow Gore's example, because, as he readily points out in his speeches, he lives a "carbon-neutral lifestyle." But if Al Gore is the world's role model for ecology, the planet is doomed."

Still want to hold to your absurd observation that a politician "never asks people to voluntarily change their ways?"
Maybe we should do an audit and see whether he indeed lives a "carbon-neutral lifestyle." But so far I haven't seen any evidence that he doesn't. A big house means nothing.

And if he believes that he can just persaude people to "voluntarily" switch to green energy, then he is being too naive. Very few good behaviors in our society are voluntary. The laws are there for a good reason.

My view of his argument is that he tries to promote a policy change.

Quote from james_bond_3rd:

He is a politician. A politician never asks people to "voluntarily" do something. A politician pushes for an agenda, which when most people agree will be acted upon. But before that agenda is accepted, it's perfectly ok for the politician to NOT practice that agenda. This is not hypocracy. This is pragmatism.

Not debating the merits of the policies, instead demanding that the people advocating the policies to "practice" them is disingenuous.

By the way, an energy efficient 10,000 sq ft house needs less power than your typical 2,000 ft apartment. So the size of the house doesn't mean anything.

Talk about Pretzle Logic. James you should run for office, you're a natural:D :D

That may be the dumbest statement ever written on ET!! LOL

Tell him what He's won Baron!!!!:p
I see how my post is misunderstood. Should've chosen my words more carefully.

What I mean't was, in TN land is dirt cheap so anybody can build a big house with a fraction of the money you NYers have.

10,000 sq ft is really nothing.

True it is one of the poorer states so there are a lot of people who live in ghettos too. I didn't mean that they didn't exist.

Now laugh your *** off.

Does that mean that I have your vote?

And you twisted that pretzel pretty good, too.

Im still not understanding your logic....im not a NYer anymore and i actually own a 2nd home by the tenn border...yes the homes are a little cheaper to build....but the amount of space that needs to be heated/cooled will be the same .

The knock on Gore in TN was that he didn't bring home any pork as a senator. And no pork either for 8 years as VP. So basically he lost TN because he was too much of a good boy (other people's good boy).

Doubtful. Think about it logically. If I was voter motivated by receiving pork, would I vote for a Republican from Texas or roll the dice once more on Gore. Even if I'd been burned by being long Gore I sure wouldn't flip short on the lows.

Gore lost Tennessee for the same reasons Dems lose everywhere else in the south. Too liberal. An Edwards or Gore can become Senator but 70% of whites vote against them for jobs that directly impact defense.

This may be one of those misconceptions that rarely get discussed. The energy cost of a house is more a function of the number of windows and doors than anything else. The insulating materials used nowadays for walls and ceilings are really good. So if you also do a good job on insulating the windows and the doors, you can cut the heating/cooling cost of a big house below that of an apartment in a concrete building (concrete is a poor insulator).

Further, if you add solar heaters (I've seen quire a few in TN) and solar panels, you could become energy neutral - although I'm not sure about that.

I neglected to include the liberal version of the First Amendment, but I have posted it many times before. "Everyone who disagrees with me, shut the f*ck up!"

That's the other side of the coin.

Basically, if he had brought pork home, then his being liberal would be fine because he would be our liberal.

But between "their" liberal and "their" conservative, the choice was "their" conservative.
