The only vertical support came from the outside steel shell, which acted like an enormous tube.
The inner floors, had virtually no vertical support besides the connection to the outside shell, and the elevator shafts. So, it is very easy to imagine the floors simply giving way one ontop of the other.
There is a documentary on the WTC construction that is on from time-to-time. Get the facts from the actual guys that designed and built the damn thing, not some left-wing hack-job websites.

there was nothing "massive" about the floors. The WTC had a very unique design, the only vertical support came from the outer shell which allowed for a very "light" interior.
The Sear's tower for instance wouldn't collapse as the WTC did, due to the internal structural supports.
Here's a test you can do, drop a few million tons of concreate from 1/4 mile in the air, and see if all the concrete simply gets pulverized.
