I think it is as a result of the UK closing 11-1130 and most larger traders having completed their positions which leaves us and the market markers for liquidity.
could explain why a few thousand shares can move the stock?

And before you ask, the channel was drawn early yesterday. This is er2 but similar (or actually clearer) story in NQ and ES.

Note: I trade from smaller timeframes, these give bigger picture.

Stops being hit during the lunch lull is the only reason for spikes like that IMO.

But as a professional I need to lose that opinion, and just focus on what is happening and not try to figure it out. I feel better now.
