I was going to reply to the question in your first paragraph, that is, until I read your second paragraph. I think I would be doing a disservice to you by trying to summarize a subject that is quite complex, and that really requires a little bit of study, to come up with worthwhile conclusions.

I invite to read the article in full when you have time, I think you could learn a lot from it.

A little history lesson on Muslim Interests,

After the United States finally finally won it's freedom, in the late 1700's, our shipping interests "merchant marine fleet" no longer had the protection from France. Before we declared Independence we had the protection of the Royal Navy. Being on our own and without a Navy our ships were at risk from Pirates.

The countries off the Barbary Coast, mainly Tripoli, Algiers, Tunis and Morrocco, declared War on the US capturing our ships, enslaving their crews and holding them for ransom. For many years our Congress, against the advice of many and without the necessary means for protecting these ships, paid the ransoms requested for the release of the crews. At on time the ransom requests totaled over 15% of the entire budget.

Thomas Jefferson, before he became President was infuriated at the actions of Congress in these matters. In March 1785, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams went to London to negotiate with Tripoli's envoy, Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdrahaman. When they inquired "concerning the ground of the pretensions to make war upon nations who had done them no injury", the ambassador replied:

TAKE NOTE OF THIS FC, the Ambassador's response

"It was written in their Koran, that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every mussulman who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise."

When Jefferson finally became President, he immediately stopped ransom payments, formed a Navy and you can read for yourself the rest of the history lesson, google Barbary Wars.

I might add, the phrase "Shores of Tripoli" in the Marines' Hymn, pays tribute to the Marines who fought in the war.

Nice history story. Too bad that was then and this is now. The US/West is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Muslims via illegal wars and actions in the ME in much more recent times and Muslims are well aware of it. Hundreds of thousands of children died from the economic sanctions on Iraq alone.

The US/West has meddled with a wasp nest and now they are out and stinging.
