What is the best state of mind for trading?

Quote from dbphoenix:

Unless you're hung over or ill, your state of mind ought to be determined by your plan and whether or not you have the discipline to follow it. If you're so fucked up that you can't follow your plan, take the day off.

OTOH, if you're using music or freshman philosophy as a substitute for a plan, good luck to you.

When trading the minis there is something awesome about pressing the button then your trade, stops trailing stops and profit targets all going in and once. Especially once you are making money. Which has only started for me recently in the electronic futures.

So I would say confident with an automated plan.

It is fricken wonderful.

Tape reading stocks is a totally different gig. Where I thought emotions were important. Confidence, awareness, focus. Like a cat waiting for its prey. When it was real good I felt like a maestro conducting the lucent or emc specialist with my shares changing his direction so that I could have the best fills. Never really felt like that since decimals.

What would you say is easier, stocks or futures?

Really......If you do not believe me then try it. If you have that kind of control over your mind you will be great!

"Your are lucky, it took me two (years) + tears to finally have utter faith and trust in the system I use - now emotion is gone - except the joy of making good money the easy way." (Oten). I think you've done exceptionally well.

I have an economics degree, a tested business background and, yes, was even once an open outcry dealer. So this gives me familiarity, right?

But heres the kick: in online trading most start and stay with the wrong question/s .. why this, why that, why the other .. and keep doing it. 'Why' don't matter diddly squat. 'Why' don't add sh*t and it can and does even get in the way. Its HOW.

HOW .. its a problem solving question only. How do I make money .. preferably lots of it .. say, from a given market, say, the Dow. Next; know the market you choose .. inside out upside down.

Those are your starters. Now: work out your system. Apply it .. yeah, thats right, do it!

Pass Go . . and enter happy money land forever.

As to what else in life .. well, sure as hell can't do it any better than anyone else and haven't done it any better than most others.

But thats not counting the fun and satisfaction I get out of the Dow, is it?

I do not know which type of trading is easier, when you have and edge it is easy. If your edge is money management, it is a lot of work, and if you do not have an edge you think it is pyschology.
