Why would he hope that the shooter was Muslim and how would that make him happy if he was and why does that make him hateful?

Do you two have some back and forth about him being anti Muslim and you being pro Muslim?

Be sure of it. For example, when a buddy says, "I want to kill myself", you probably take it one way. When a stranger says it you at least consider the other possibility.
