I wonder if we know the percentage of people who have really protected themselves with guns. Considering most of the above is done with the element of surprise. To the percentage of those same gins used to kill in an instance of rage by the same gun owners.
I'm not sure. But I'd be willing to bet that if you have a gun, you've got a better chance of dealing with the situation than if you do not - especially when a hostile invader enters your home. "Surprise", as you call it, isn't always as much of a surprise as you imply, if you practice situational awareness. This isn't to say there is never a true surprise.
Regardless, none of you can provide a solution to removing the illegal guns off the street - so why would you focus on getting rid of the legally owned ones since crimes committed by illegally owned weapons represent the vast percentage of the problem?
